When we got to zeebrugge at 8-30am there was a coach there to take us into Brugges as its 1/2 hour away but the coach was not a P&O one it was just a local bus he took us to the station and said we would be picked up at 5-30pm by now it was about 9am so off he went leaving us there .
We had no idea where we where the station was not in the town centre no body spoke english any way a bus pulled up and we decided to try it but you have to get tickets from the office before boarding so less bought 3 tickets that cost 1.30 euros each and when we turned round the bus had gone .
So still wondering what to do or where to go we spotted a Taxi lets get that i said and we all jumped in "can you take use to the market square " we asked with a big smile on his face the driver said yes and off we went.
Two minutes later we where in the town square i must admit the driver did answer our questions like where can we buy some tabacco ect we got out and he said that would be 9 euros £6 30p
this is a photo of the cigar shop he told us to use .
more on this later:D
This link is to the shop's site

Wish I had known you were going could have given you the directions from the station :)

We had the same problem when we got there, absolutely no signpost or sights to suggest which way the town centre is. As it happens we went in the cafe and one of the waitresses spoke excellent English and told us which way to walk :D

when i went last year we got on the same local bus from the docks, then went into Brugges to look around then we went by train to Oostende, it was beautiful, lovely white beaches and blue sea, the shopping over there is excellent, and they had proper stella, they dont sell it in pints and halves they have 3 different measures...the shops are very cheap i ended up bringing loads of things back for Reece, we went on a tour of Oostend on a horse and cart....going again in a couple of months :D

By now it was about 12 so we dicided it was time for a drink:)
So we found our way back to the market square where there are loads of nice places to eat and drink outside
We found this table with a nice shaded area and sat down the waiter came over and asked what we would like we said just a drink and he said would we like to try the local brew yes please Small, medium or large was the next question ?we looked at each other and all togeather said large please :D
the waiter said you had better start on medium and off he went .
this is what came to the table :D

Re: A trip to Brugges

After all this we thought it was time to find the cigar shop again
we set off and less realised he had left his glasses on board the ferry and needed some more so on the way we found a place and he got a good pair for 25 euros
on the way to the shop there was a van selling hot dogs so we got 2 large hot dogs and a burger the burger was for me and was very nice.
after this we reached the shop
now this shop is really nice selling every type of cigar you can think of and cigs, tabacco ect at the front but at the back they have a really nice cafe.
we ordered 3 coffee's which come with a liqueur and a biscuit ,it looks very posh in there and we thought this is going to be expensive but it was only 7 euros for all three .
we had the coffee and got our stuff from the front of the shop and then asked the shop owner which is the best way to the station,"oh easy just turn right out the shop accross the canal and turn right again its only 20 mins walk great and thankyou.
so off we go 20 mins later and we are totaly lost we walked for miles in the hot sun we were all very tierd and it was getting late so we could miss the conection back to the ferry at this rate.
everyone we asked did not know or did not understand this is great even a information center could not direct us while me and peter where asking in there less had found a map we both got instructions to go in differant directions anyway a bus was in so asked the driver who pointed to another bus and said you need that so it was a mad dash to catch it before it left .
we got back to the station at 5pm sweat poring off all of use feet aching lucky there is a pub on the station well there i two anyway in we went with halve hour to spare had a drink .
now this bar did not have a toilet or we could not find one and less was in need so we looked round and there is one of those stand alone ones near our pickup point so we thought thats handy so we walked over there dropped all our stuff and less checked the loo out but its a card entry only for bus staff the bus to take us back was here but we had 10 mins before it was due to leave so less said he was off to find a loo.
Now the other pub/club on there had pounding music and flashing lights and we said we where not going in there for a drink (we are all old sods:) )
but less needed the loo so in he went when he got back the look of shock on his face was funny ,he had found a loo ok but it only had those ranch type swing doors on and a woman was on the doors talking to another woman so while he was doing what he needed they where talking and watching him as he walked out she called him back he had not paid to use the loo hehe.

Re: A trip to Brugges

If those drinks were medium I dread to think what a large looked like! Did you see one? They look like something from a science lab experiment on those stands! Don't they come loose from the stands for drinking purposes? :D

Mick 30-04-2007 07:22

Re: A trip to Brugges

they do come out willow but thats for washing them you need the stand as a handle they are not light
we did see people with the small ones but nobody had the large mabe next time:D :D
