Whats all this about?

Come across this tree stump with coins hammered into it on the Ingleton Falls walk.
Anyone know why they do it?
There's a couple of them around Bolton Abbey too

Re: Whats all this about?

Ive heard it referred to as Lucky Bush and is supposed to bring you Luck and fortune if you hammer a coin into the tree. There are some Cave's in Cornwall with coins embedded in the rock crevices which are supposedly a similar tradition.

There are also some tree stumps in Portmierion with old copper coins nailed into them. Apparently the copper stops the tree stump from growing.
