THE head of Exeter's cleansing services says the date for next year's royal wedding has left the council with a major headache.

the bin collectors are complaining about the date of the wedding!!!

Mr Trim told the Echo: "I just don't think William and Kate took waste collections into consideration when they were sorting through dates for their nuptials.

I am chuffed that the course of events enables me to resurrect this post I made nearly 5 years ago .

It is a post I remember well.....not least because I received green karma for it from Jaysay , RIP , and that made me feel that I had at last "arrived" at Accy Web after a bumpy start .

In fact my respect for her grows as the years go by .

I whole heartedly agree. I noticed in the press along with all the positive articles the Repubicans are saying now is a good time to abolish the monarchy. I think they would find a President would cost the country far far more than a monarch and where in the world would they have found someone as dedicated as our present Queen has been over all these years. For me she is a National Treasure and Long May She Reign.

The other thing about a President, is that it is a political position, therefore likely to be subject to bias and corruption.
There are enough politicians in this country.....no there are too many.....and many of them could not lie straight in bed.
They are not like the queen....who is not in it for the money or political kudos, all they really care about is maintaining their place at the trough, and being on a lucrative gravy train.

Exactly !!! I cannot imagine any president generating the interest to overseas visitors as the Queen does along with all the pageantry that goes along with Royalty. As you say Margaret, politicians are two a penny and in it for what they can get out of it unlike H.M. who has an unbelievable sense of duty. Still doing all the public appearances etc at almost 90yrs old is marvellous too. The cynics who say that is because of her privileged life I think are wrong. Money does not buy good health.

I support the idea of a Head of State who stands ABOVE the cut and thrust of political arguments. It gives a stability and permanence to our whole political process.

I hate the obsequious, crawling approach of ANYONE brown nosing around the Royals - mainly Royal Correspondents.

William and Kate are NOT just like any other young couple. George is NOT just like any other toddler. Charlotte is NOT just like any little girl. And together, the LAST way to describe them is 'Just like any other young family'. They represent the ULTIMATE in privilege.

But that is what we get.

I admire the Queen, not for her privilege, but in the way she has handled herself. She is just a little old lady given a thankless task.

Prince Philip provides plenty of entertainment as a pompous buffoon always putting his foot in it.

Which probably is his biggest contribution to the ongoing popularity of the monarchy.

Prince Philip may be a buffoon to many but to the Queen he has been her rock since they married almost 68 yrs ago. I suspect she would not have been able to carry out her duties as well as she has done without him supporting her.
