Just had notification through that the Cabinet have made the decision to shut the toilets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays, with signposting towards the Market Hall toilets instead. Apparently this will save the council £10k per year.

I'm meeting with the new Town Centre manager next week to find out why the decision was made and hopefully finding some figures to support this.

to me this seems nothing more than someone trying to con the public that this is a good idea because it saves money and i would love to see how stopping people peeing saves 10 thousand pounds a year.Maybe shutting the toilets upstairs in the market hall would be a much better idea .The outside toilets have been located there for many many years excusing the slight relocation of a few yards when the new complex was built and have served the public well mainly because it is the most ideal location for toilets to serve not only the shoppers but the workfoce in the market and the bus drivers

to me this whole escapade stinks ( excuse the pun) of and idea to help out 1 particualr buissness that hasnt been as unoticed as hoped but i can see this ridiculous idea been pushed through on sheer stubborness alone with the attitude that in a few weeks it will all be forgotten about

Ask him how much these new signs pointing to the upstairs cafe are costing while you are there.

I don't believe for one minute the figurses being bandied about here, a saving of £10k per year? That figure must be a joke surely? Why not just close the toilets in the market hall? They aren't suitable to cope with a large number of people

And they are hardly ideally situated are they?

I'm sure we'd all love to know the breakdown, and exactly how that ten thousand pounds is arrived at.

Since Lancsdave, and other business, rent their properties off H.B.C., and don't have their own toilet facilities, I wonder if the powers that be worked how much a saving there'd be if the toilets in the Market Hall were closed?

Surely in the interest of saving tax payers' money, a fair comparisson would be made, before arriving at any decision?

That's if the decision was made with saving money in mind, and not about getting people to go upstairs in the Market Hall, traipsing through a particular cafe. Which I believe is owned by someone whose name is Britcliffe.

I was musing along the line of facilities, o.k. So the shops don't have their own toilets, is there anything in the rent agreement about toilets? Is there a legal maximum distance a landlord can expect a tenant to have to go before finding a relief station? Is there any decency in a council or it's leader that claims to be saving 10k by inconveniencing traders, bus drivers and shoppers when they spend almost half that amount per year on free butties for themselves?
Cut down on your own luxuries before you remove ordinary folk the pleasure of spending a penny.

The controlling group have taken leave of their senses.

Of all the 15million+ that the Council spends each year, its hard to think of a more provocative gesture than saving 10k on cleaning toilets three days a week. Presumably that can only be saved by sacking the cleaner and reducing the order for Ajax and Cillit Bang.

It's the budget equivalent of a scatter bomb, designed to impact on as many people as possible. It's all about cynical politics and nothing to do with responsible management.

have just read the accy observer .. cant believe what theyve said ... councillor marlene haworth saying that we are all businessmen and that it will increase the footfall into the market hall .. and councillor britcliffe saying i dont know why it hasnt gone down very well because the toilets that can be used are just 100 yards away i dont see what the problem is it will still be convenient to spend a penny in hyndburn ....

It's proved what we've been saying on this thread 'increase footfall for businesses in there' I was so angry when I read that, I think they best hope I don't bump into either of them

The last one in particular must be one of the most arrogant statements I've read. He also lied about the signs on Monday, they were up the week before. They also state that council bosses say it's a trial period, read back on this thread and see what the council actually said in the reply everybody got, it says re-locating.

They can't get a story straight between them
