Political Correctness, again!

OMG. Now I’ve heard it all. Talk about political correctness going haywire. Here’s another way that it has, at least over here. According to today’s newspaper soldiers are being banned from using terms like ‘him’ and ‘her’ and have to stick to non-gender language so as not to offend anyone. They have also to issue an apology if they use the banned language.

I’m sure this is not what people of different sexual persuasions themselves want to happen. Probably some so-called do-gooders sticking their nose in where it’s not warranted.

I am so glad I am at the dog end of my life.
That I lived in times when things were so much simpler.
It is not the world that has gone mad....but just a small percentage of the inhabitants.

Utter stupidity, they can attempt to neutralise gender as much as they want but, as soon as puberty kicks in both boys and girls know there is a great deal of interest in the difference in the opposite sex and no amount of political correctness will stop nature (or these kids) from exploring it.

Re: Political Correctness, again!

I do believe that people should not be victimised because of who they are regarding their sexuality. It’s nobody else’s business.

However, that politically correct brigade do tend to go overboard at times. They have done so at an airline company (which shall remain nameless) when they told their staff not to use gender inappropriate words like husband, wife, mum and dad. Instead they were told to use the words ‘partner’, ‘spouse’, and ‘parents’.

Re: Political Correctness, again!

This ‘mustn’t offend’ whether it is because of religion, sex, or whatever, really does go too far at times. Though maybe we really could have used a bit of it years ago. I’m not sure where the P.C. Police were in Australia in the days when the Greeks were called Wogs, the Italians were Dagos, and us English people were Pommie Bast****. If you complained then you were a whinging Pom – and if you didn’t like it then you knew what you could do….

…so we developed a thick skin and gave back as good as we got.

It feels very much like these minorities are inflicting their values on the majority...but it is not them doing it, it is the liberal lefties who are at fault.
Less, I am with you...they will try to wipe out gender, but it can't be done.
It is not even to try and ensure equality.
Male and female were never meant to be in competition.
They were always meant to complement one another.
They are the two sides of one coin.
All different, all individuals with something to give to the world.

If someone takes offence, then that is their problem.
We all have our sensitivities....and like opinions, we are entitled to them.
(Mine is profanities and foul language and that is MY problem)

With a little self control AND tolerance towards the people causing you to use foul language, even you can stop swearing Margaret.

No, Less....I use only the mildest of swear words(is 'chuffing' a swear word).
I mean that I hate having to listen to the filthy language that comes out of some folks mouths(and I KNOW you know this, but others may not)
I challenged a young couple (travelling with a baby and a toddler)on public transport recently by asking them if they kissed their children goodnight with their filthy mouths.
I got a black look, but they did no swearing for the rest of the journey.

It is my offended attitude to listening to swearing that is MY problem.

I can't imagine you swearing at all (you have what is known as self control).

I try to keep my swearing to a minimum sometimes however when used in the correct manner it can be quite effective.

One of the pubs I use has a barmaid (or to be P.C. a barperson) she has a mouth so foul every second word is worse than anything I used to hear in the Navy.
I was waiting to be served and she started ranting at me about something that was none of my business, I told her this has nothing to do with me, she/(it) kept ranting, I said, look, I've just told you this has nothing to do with me, so, shut the **** up and serve my bloody beer I don't need to listen to you.
She/(it) looked shocked, said that it was strange for me to swear at her, yes, was my reply just because I don't normally swear at you doesn't mean I don't know the words, if you would like me to stop swearing at you in future, then learn to moderate your language and just do your job which is keeping me supplied with beer.

If you hit your thumb with a hammer...that is justification for letting rip.
But when you are sitting on a bus and the person (or persons) in front are using really foul language every third word, it is a sign they have very poor command of their mother tongue.
It is also a sign that they have not been checked when growing up.
Swearing is not a sign that you are a 'grown up'.

Re: Political Correctness, again!

The majority of servicemen (whoops), are given nicknames early on in their service life which tends to stick throughout their service. I can only think of one that could be classed as sexist - a WRAF who carried the name "Bumpy" throughout her career and she still uses it - she was quite a well endowed young lady and an absolute hooligan on the 5 a side football court, although many were grateful for the cushioning effect when she crashed you into the boards.
