Re: Haworth Gallery

Norman Potter was a good curator.
You must remember Blake's work is very much of it's time, & was very cutting edge at the time. Art is always moving boundaries. People had the same reaction to Tracy Emmin's bed, as they did to what we now fondly think as proper art, when it was first shown.

Last time I went, they were showing some of Goya's charcoal sketches and I also saw some Car Art which was different but great. So they are capable of putting on good shows so why don't they?

I agree that they don't rotate the permanent display enough. They have oodles of things in storage which we never see. What is the point of that? I'm sure when people donated works of art or artifacts they assumed that they would be put on display for the benefit of residents and visitors, not gathering dust in a store room somewhere.

Re: Haworth Gallery

All i can say is, no matter what peoples opinions on the cr*p they may or may not show there, at least:
1) Its free and there for all to enjoy
2) It (sort of) makes art accesible to the chavs who visit there on numerous school trips!
3) Its MUCH better than anything WE have in Southport!
Took my girlfriend a while ago when we were over to show her tiffany glass and she loved it! and the house is amazing too. cheap date if anyone wants a tip!
