Re: Accrington Buses?

Sorry to dissapoint Dave but it is just coincidence A bus was recently purchased (from Wales) which just happened to be blue/red. The company liked the colour scheme (and it would save money) so put it on the road as is.

Since then, 2 older red Mercedes have been in need of a "touch-up" and he has opted for the same livery.

You are not alone in noting the similarity though Dave. Did the original livery have a coloured band on the divide of red & blue? (According to one of the bus addicts that I was talking to)

Re: Accrington Buses?

Thanks Bussman, Yes I think it did especially on the double deckers, didnt same company try this a few years ago but preservationists complained because it undermined their preserved Accy bus. Nice to see them though.

I believe I read somewhere ... might of been on here ... that the original livery commemorated the Pals ... and that the fenders, or whatever you guys call them, were black, symbolizing mourning?

And over here, a "fender bender" is a minor accident.

Re: Accrington Buses?

I'm very interested in the history of Accrington Buses/Trams. I have models, paintings/prints/photos/books etc. The livery was blue red and black and was quite unique. As far as I know, there are two buses still in existance. One is a 1928 Dennis single decker and is based in suffolk, the other is a Guy Arab single decker (No10) and has been re painted in cream and is used for weddings. It is based in Halifax.

Re: Accrington Buses?

Here are two links to the owners of the only preserved buses form Accrington Corporation Transport;

1928 dennis single deck bus Accrington No 57, Dennis ES, Registration TE 7870
Coach Hire Suffolk - Buckland Buses

Accrington No 10, Single Deck Guy Arab III 1949, Registration KTC 615,
Vintage buses for hire from Yorkshire Heritage Bus

Sadly no double deckers survived into preservation.

Search this site to see a really interesting full history of Accrington Transport
lths.lutsociety.org.uk/library1.html

Accy buses had a simply superb livery!
If only I could win the lottery then I would try to buy No 10 back and have it repainted in its true colours!

Re: Accrington Buses?

My sister remarried a few years ago at Saltaire and wanted Number 10 ex Accrington bus to take her from Todmorden to Saltaire via Oakworth where the guests, who were all in vintage dress, we're having a picnic.
The company said number 10 couldn't make the hills so they used one of their double decker a instead.
