We'd been looking at old stone built cottages and beamed ceilings then ended up both falling...

Re: Pitt Street

I took this photo today of where Elephant Street no longer is. This is now part of St. Leger Court which covers the whole of that area on the side of Plantation Street between Abbey Street and Cobham...

Re: Pitt Street

Well I'm sure Willi will appreciate it too but I love seeing old photos and being able to relate to them. I vaguely remember Elephant St and yet there are those younger than us who doubt it ever...

Re: Pitt Street

Indeed it is Atarah, as you can see on the inset map. The area from Cobham St (now Cobham Rd) down to Abbey St between Plantation St and Birtwistle St is the area which was demolished and now has a...

Jenny Sheldrake

Does anyone know anything about the "famous" Accrington witch Jenny Sheldrake?

Until today I'd never heard of her but presume she featured around the time of the Pendle Witches.

Red face Re: Accrington should have a museum

:o Ooops, that was my fault Neil. I created the site. Initially I didn't have a museum photo - hence the temporary viaduct which I altered but being a forgetful sort of a person I had completely...

Re: It's not so smart to have a 'smart meter'

I'm not worried about the arrival of smart meters. I've armed myself with orgone accumulators! They should keep me safe. ;)

Re: Are you feeling lucky?

It's called synchronicity that Kestrel - David Icke is a great believer in it.

Re: Selling gold in Accy area

It's worth enquiring at different places what price they are offering. Sometimes the jewellers offer more. The price is on the way down at present though.

Re: is Christianity a force for good?

.....and also of course 28:19 which explains why Christians feel the need to share their beliefs with others.

The thing is that Christians are just people, like anyone else be they Jew, Muslim,...

Re: New theory on the origins of man

It sounds like this chap had a "what if, just supposing" moment and then looked for substance to back up his notion. I'd be more ready to believe a space alien/human cross breed than a pig and ape...

Re: Just Moved Here

On the positive side, it's a nice part of town with easy access to town centre and on a bus route so the gritter does tend to go up and down the road in winter. Whether or not it chucks out any grit...

Re: is Christianity a force for good?

I'm not RC but this current Pope sounds like he's a different kettle of fish to any of the previous incumbents. He seems very down to earth. It puzzles me how often people refer to the RC church as...

Re: Accrington should have a museum

It's great to see the museum in its Arndale location and hopefully lots of people are learning about our history. Lovely to see my Gran's stuff in there and my Dad's old ready reckoner on display,...

Is that ancestry.com? I'm a member and if there's anything I can do to help just let me know. I'm not very familiar with my way round it yet so you may need to give me a few clues.

Re: Today's EU question: how would you vote?

"Yes Minister" wasn't far off the mark with it's idea that the MP follows instruction from those who work for him.

Re: Did Graham Jones do the right thing?

I rather suspect they do and that is infuriating. The people who do not understand don't bother voting about such things anyway. In a democratic country we should have a right to make our views...

Re: Jacob Hargreaves - born 1812, Accrington

To whom specifically did you direct your query? If it was one of the volunteers at the Family History Centre they may not have known the answer.

It also depends which 'crap' you are querying. Some...
