Re: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Accrington

I'm not sure whether it's great that I'm provoking the stirring of all these grey cells, or bizarre that I can just sit here on the other side of the country and just pose random questions as they...

Re: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Accrington

I was thinking I'd killed this thread and it was time for another inane question.

However, I realise there's something else bugging me slightly about this.

Re: World War 1

I have had a bit of excitement this morning (well, exciting for me) - and, thanks to some information passed to me by Ossy Kid I have discovered an indirect connection to someone else who served in...

Re: World War 1

I'm gong to have a hunt around to see if "A Swann" and "E Swann" were family members - there was definitely an "A Swann", and I know you had no record, but it would be a guess. "E Swann" is not a...

Re: World War 1

If you are saying there is an "A Swann" on the RoH I can probably identify it for you - but not if it's "A Swan". Let me know.

Re: World War 1

Well, I said I would be back. :)

Retlaw has kindly confirmed to me that he has records of two of my relatives - Charles Swann (Army) and Herbert Swann (Navy) having served during the First World...

Re: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Accrington

I'm ever so slightly confused (but you have to remember I'm not a native).

The photograph looks more like a Weslyan Chapel than a Primitive one - certainly the Primitive ones where I grew up and...

Re: Cotton Reeler

Well, on looking at my list again I see that I have Cotton Reelers, Cotton Creelers, Reeler Cottons, a Piecer, plenty of Weavers. And a Hooker.

Thanks to your list Garinda, I have far more idea...

Re: World War 1

Can I claim my descendancy please?

I'm afraid that I have no photos, letters, or anything, but know I had two relations who served, believe a third probably did, and have an inkling re a fourth.

Well I've certainly learnt more than I bargained for in starting this thread ......... :D

And there was me thinking that it was a pretty boring question.

I'll have to start thinking about what...

Re: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Accrington

Thanks Ossy Kid.

The linky you put in took me to an invalid file, but I think I tracked the information down - which confirms Whalley Road.

Re: Primitive Methodist Chapel, Accrington

No - 'cause my guess at Whalley Road is just that.

I just assumed there couldn't have been that many Primitive Methodist Chapels in Accrington.

But perhaps I should know better - in our village...

I wondered if anyone could tell me where this is/was?

I am looking for the Chapel that would have been in existence in 1871.

I am wondering if it was the one that was demolished/replaced on...

Maybe I have joined the right Forum - 'cause as soon as I started reading this I thought "yep, I've heard of 'wick'"

I don't think I've heard it used for nits/fleas, but in a similar vein it could...
