Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

How did Accrington (indeed Hyndburn) ever survive before they opened the Market Hall on Wednesdays? Oh yes indeedy, I remember every shop in the borough being open on a Wednesday, no one would dream...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

You all invite anger upon this forum with your unfounded allegations, I cannot be party to this.

Having said that, I was told in full council that I don't know when to keep my mouth shut so what...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre was re-opened again last Thursday by the Leader of the Council.

It's possible that there will be a story on it in this week's Observer....

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

It may well be if it wasn't seemingly written all about one person.

I'm genuinely pleased that it's moving back to Accrington. From what I can gather from people who have read it for years it...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

It's already put to full council as a question. If it's accurate then good on them, but if it's just bandying figures about as many suspect then it's not really on to try and dupe the public into...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Back pedalling? Certainly not, I just thought that with all my vile and vicious posts about how the traders are being interfered with I should balance that with something about what good stalls and...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I took Mrs Moss to Accy today for a mooch round and the Market Hall has provided us with tea for the next five nights, really excellent stuff on offer. Almost everything we wanted to have a look at...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

It could just be a coincidence, but ever since this subject was raised on KenWeb there have been no butties at lunchtime committee meetings, even yesterday for The Leader.

I also note plans to...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I do actually!

I remember sitting on a bench in front of trestle tables and noticing while we were eating that the copper dome off the tower of the old foundry in Bamber Bridge was missing (it...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Oh, the endless jokes one could make about a Queen coming out of the closet.

Or even bigger ones about public toilets being shut during a town festival.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Blackburn Road is being closed plus the road between the Castle pub and the Arndale Centre car park in order to accommodate a fireworks display.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Yet there are road closures involved for the Royal Wedding celebrations. Is the carnival before or after the elections?

Let me guess.....

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Regrettably for you, I conferred that honour on another Hyndburn resident some time ago and the post doesn't show any signs of becoming vacant.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I can't deny that I'd have gone for a more subtle borough-wide approach but you have to remember who is in charge and how many photographs will need taking. Everyone who is getting married on 29th...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I'm not entirely against it and there's a good effort being made to celebrate a one-off event which I hope the local shopkeepers and publicans will capitalise on but this has been a purely...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

We had a meeting yesterday regarding the Royal Wedding celebrations for Hyndburn and the Market Hall came up.

The plans are quite impressive to be fair but Cllr Malcolm Pritchard pointed out the...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Just been informed that Cabinet is rather lively this morning, with my personal views on the Market Hall publicly suggested for relocation up where the stallholders don't trade. Preparation H on...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

So nearly 70 markets entered the competition at £763 a go? That's comfortably £50,000 for a glass trophy and an awards ceremony plus a few civil servants. Marvellous, another reason to feel good...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Red karma and sandwiches. Curse these political threads! Get your cousin to dry your eyes, mate.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I'm loving your polarised online persona. You deride political threads yet take part in virtually nothing else.

Pick any policy from any party that you like and look back 20 or 30 years at the...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

We're being given verbal figures stating how many are in favour/against/want the option but there has been nothing in print to back this up. I present the council with hard evidence, signed by all...
