Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I think it is time that Gayle organised a Tea Dance in Accy Market. I'm sure the floor can take it - the space is there. The only problem is the cost of getting a band to show up and do the music. My...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I wonder if they got a special deal from PB, along the lines of 'You keep me sweet & I'll keep you sweet'.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

How much does HBC pay to be a member of NABMA? And what exactly does this Quango do, other than award themselves meaningless prizes? Does the Leader of HBC get a medal for having the best indoor...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I must admit, I like the mock Victoriana signs. Maybe the theme should be extended further - sprinkle sawdust over the uncovered stone flags....get the butchers to hang some skinned rabbits from...

Have a read of this:

New Year tree - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year_tree#History_of_the_Russian_New_Year_tree)

I'm quite sure the Russkies are more...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

They may well celebrate Chistmas day on a date other than in the West, but I'm pretty sure they still have '12 days of Christmas' which by my maths puts that tree well within the period of their...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

She probably rigged the question and the votes. She should be on X factor.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I didn't say that was the only bribe, did I? Stop and think...if you were a major corporation looking at a controversial development which was likely to face major oppostion, what would you do? Think...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

There's no doubt Tesco do bribes; forgetting the brown envelope stuff, I think I put a posting a few months ago on the Stanley section about Tesco's football summer schools in Lancashire in 2010; 4...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Aye..to use the nearest cash machine to Church, if I recall. I may have piked up a bottle of milk while I was there, though.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

You are the one who digressed and brought up this nonsense about the truck system. I've stuck to my guns all the time about the Victorian market hall and right from when I first joined this website...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Then again, maybe it didn't....but I'm perplexed. What has pseudo-scientific, neo-Marxist claptrap got to do with the splendour of Accy's Victorian Hall, its history and its future?

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Certainly not, Gordon. But Garinda is a difficult man to put down. He's a bit like one of these characters in an Xbox computer game - you know the one I mean - the Cannibal Zombies. However much you...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Yeah..I certainly need it in the quiz. Maybe I should get a new mouse to speed up my reaction time in answering questions or maybe I should spend a few hours a day watching Corrie and similar rubbish...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Yep..the likes of Titus Salt and the Quakers certainly looked after their workers. Subsidised superior housing, free education for the kids, healthcare...but no pubs. Still, they were paid in cash...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

Oh Dear...now you are getting confused.

Your original reference was to that of the 'Truck' system, where factory owners paid their employees in tokens that could only be spent in the the factory...

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment

I suspect that many of those visiting Bury are from Manchester and it's environs - Bury, is afterall, just a quick tram ride away. And lets face it - there are quite a few people from Hyndburn who...
