Samsung Galaxy GT-I5800 Firmware upgrade

Does anyone have the above 'phone? I can get mine to sync with the PC software but can't seem to upgrade the firmware.
The program downloads the update but then just seems to sit there even though it claims to be preparing it for the 'phone.
Have left it talking to itself for over 2 hours, no change, searched the web can't find anyone with similar problems.
Anyone got any clues?

Ta.

No, but it is how I've been trying to do it.

According to the box/contents it's the Samsung GT-I5800 Galaxy Apollo Android.

The other thing with it is, it comes with plenty of google apps none of which it will allow me to sign in to google to use (claims it's poor connection to servers), even though I was able to get my gmail account to work on it, I don't want to play around trying to fix that until I've updated the firmware though.

Thanks anyway.

I never needed to do that when updating Galaxy S2's

I just plugged the phone into the usb lead and opened Samsung Kies on the PC and it checked the phone and said there was an update available and did I want to do it. I have done 2 phone like that 2 or 3 times each.

When it wanted to update to Android ICS it would not even give me the option of over the air, I had to use Kies

Its a lot safer to use Kies to do it than over the air to the phone. I messed my phone up once while away with work trying to update over the air. I had to do a manual update to fix it after that.

When you are doing your update, how long does it usually take for the panel labelled 'prepare for firmware upgrade'
to go off or change?

I'm trying again now, am tempted to re-install kies in case thats corrupt,

I think the update software does that bit for you when the phone restarts and it then flashes the new android version

Sony say that you have to get update for their phones from pc companion, so no updates via the air too

Re: Samsung Galaxy GT-I5800 Firmware upgrade

I was getting a bit fed up waiting for O2 to output their custom rom of ICS. To my knowledge it is still not released for the xperia ray. O2 are real slackers when it comes to modifying the rom and releasing it. So I downloaded the stock rom and used flash tool to install ICS. Afterwards I used the repair option on the pc companion and it re downloaded ICS from sony.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on your phone? Take out the sim and sd card and do a factory reset and then try the update? worse thing you will have to do is do the settings again but it takes you through a 1-10 kinda stage thing to set up settings

Re: Samsung Galaxy GT-I5800 Firmware upgrade

Well Uninstalled, downloaded kies again, re-installed and just at the end of installation up came a 'loading drivers balloon, which promptly changed to failed to install drivers.
Checked device manager and 'PCI simple communications driver' not installed.
opened kies re-installed drivers and nothing, the drivers are missing.
I'm searching high and low for them, only solution found so far, download latest version of kies and re-install. Doh!

I did one the other day and the whole process took about 15 minutes, that's a guess but it won't be that far off. I think your pc needs to be on the net to download stuff as it's doing the update. It sends the stuff to the phone which then updates itself

I'm past caring for today, tried to find out it's purpose will try again tomorrow.

By the way I also downloaded Kies to my macbook, on that kies came up with the error, kies does not support that device. Well it came up with it once, after that it refuses to connect.

From what I'm reading there are alot of folk not keen on kies.

It almost takes me that long just to start the program up, I'm sure the download is corrupt.
Latest version 2.3.2.12064_10

Is yours earlier? I've seen a few comments from folk that are having prob's since they updated.

By the way when I tried the 'phone on my mac book although the software didn't recognise it, the lappy immediately told me what 'phone was connected & asked if I'd like to add it to my network, so if the 'phone can talk to the mac...
