Coal fired boilers

Coal fired boilers

These Coal fired boilers supplied steam to a 500 horsepower horizontal engine, which in turn drove 308 looms via belts and shafting.... can't beat the environment inside mills (even abandoned ones), I suppose it reminds me of my childhood, I can still remember the noise, smells etc of the mill and when I've visited abandoned mills I image how it must of been in its glory day.

Yes G,I hear they were buggers to repair and get going once they'd stopped and the working conditions were poor....

....but i wouldnt change any of it....every morning, hail, rain or shine joining the stream of fellow mill folk, off to t' mill, thi knows.

But for me and my gang working through the night to repair the engine you wouldn't have any work to do, the mill would stop.
