Quite agree with you on this one Jay - it is a despicable thing to do, whether it is aimed at anyone or not, just a filthy habit to my mind and then there are the health considerations.
The trouble seems to have filtered all the way through footbal down to school level. Yes, there are times when a player needs to clear his throat but it used to be done over the sideline or ground into the dirt with one's boot. As a slight thread wander - do female footballers also spit?
