A good firewall is only as good as its configuration. If you don't spend a bit of time and effort in setting it up correctly it won't/can't do its job properly

I think this changes in vista
I once installed Windows and connected to the internet to get updates, no firewall and av, my C drive was littered with about 10 .exe's after around 30seconds
