I had quite a lengthy conversation yesterday with Councilor Malcolm Pritchard about the work being carried out. He explained that the reason that the barriers were being erected, was that vehicles were parking on the pavement outside the shops, thus causing a hazard to pedestrian. Vehicles are only legally allowed to park directly outside the premises (inside the box on the photo below).

Also, he informed me that LCC not HBC made the decision, & that they are not erecting any bollards only an extended fence (more photo's to follow). I did ask though, if it was for safety reasons, why the entire length of the fence wasn't being painted in a bright colour (i.e. yellow or orange) due to it's proximity to a school. That way it would be seen from a greater distance away.

Finally, may I add that when I stated that Councilor Malcolm Prichard was "overseeing" the work, I should have said "observing".
