Sort of; but B might be confusing St. Lucy's Day and Christmas Day ... or she might just be wrong ... The shortest day of the year is St. Lucy's Day. Ironically named of course. The root of Lucy is the same as that for Lucifer, bringer of light. Donne wrote a poem about it "A Nocturnal Upon Saint Lucy's Day, Being The Shortest Day."
