Re: Who was (or is) a success?

My own opinion..

Charnock...

..seems to have stuck up a good understanding with Edwards and with King performing consistently and it has to be said, the back line looking firm in recent weeks, I only hope that We can manage to secure his services on a permanent basis. If Posh ask for a fee, I only hope that the powers that be can realise the impact the lad has had on our defensive performances since his arrival and can try to do all they can, financial constraints permitting, to sign the lad permanently.

Gornell...

...A good young striker with promise. It won't have gone un-noticed at Tranmere that he's performed admirably since he's joined us and they'd probably want a good fee for the lad, probably significantly more than we could afford. That said, apparently Tranmere have a plethora of stikers on their books, maybe he didn't fit in with Moore's plans, but that withstanding, after his exploits with us on loan, a permanent signing is probably out of reach. Maybe if he isn't going to figure with Tranmere when his loan expires, a move to secure him from January till the end of the season ??? I'd love to see us sign him permanent, but sadly can't see it happening.

Griffiths....

...Wasn't stuck on the lad when he first arrived, but recent performances have really encouraged me. I thought he at times (when he first arrived) did want a little too much time on the ball. That said, he does, at times, manage to deliver telling passes, last weeks goal against Bournemouth maybe showed a glimpse of how the lad strikes a ball ( AND WHAT A STRIKE ) Can't see him forcing his way into Ince's plans at the prima donna's line up at Ewood,so again, sign him to the end of the season and hope (for Stanley's sake and not the player's) that like many of the promising young players that Rovers take on their books,he's released and we can make a move to keep him here permanently !!

Clarke...

...Was Impressed with the lad in the early days of this season when he figured. He has pace, not frightened to shoot, but for some reason hasn't figured much recently?? ( Injured ??) Before Gornell arrived, he did look a resonable foil for Mullin, Gornell has obviously proved otherwise. Obviously the lad has potential, otherwise our illustrious neighbours wouldn't have given him terms, but dependant on how the Gornell situation pans out, maybe another move to secure his services until May??

All in all, we ain't got too much coin to throw at signing players. The loan solution may be the answer, after all it got Hereford promoted last term ( that said... It hasn't done them too good this season!! ) The main aim must be, and i'm sure is, to maintain League football for next season. With the gates that we get, that's all we can hope for. Maybe if the public got behind us more and gates increased to somewhere around the level they where when we won promotion to the league ( around the 2,000-2500 mark) Whalley,Coleman and Bell could possibly make moves to sign these players.

Harsh reality is... we can't splash the cash, when we have had quality players, Such as Craney & Roberts, we've had to sell.Whilst living in the shadow of Rovers & Burnley, that will always be our lot.

For inspiration look at Stockport. They've unearthed a couple of gems from non league recently, such as Dickinson ( I think they signed him for £2K and he went to Derby for £750K; and from what I've seen they've unearthed another such gem whose highly rated) We missed out on Baker because we haggled with Southport over a price (£50K) and Morecambe made paid the price and sold him for a good profit.

Obviously, the management have to decide, that with the means availaible,if we can afford the expenditure on securing permanent signings (i.e Transfer fee & WAGES ) It must be a tough blancing act.And on the gates we currently get???

The sad fact remains though, unless gates improve, we're always going to be "treading water" so to speak.
