Prediction League Game 32; Southend (home)
Accrington Stanley
V
Southend United
Prediction League Game 32; v Southend (home)
So; the run continues
.. How many times have we come back from 2 down in the last 3 minutes? Since New Year weve won 3, drawn 3 and lost just the one against Shrewsbury, scoring 11 and conceding 10
Coming to Fortress Crown for the very first time, Southend are also on a run, though; since we played them back in November at Roots Hall (for the first time ever) and came back with a decent 1-1 draw (Jimmy Ryan giving us a first half lead) theyve played a 2nd Round FA Cup game (losing to Macc on penalties after a 2-2 draw) and 13 in the League, winning 6, drawing 3 and losing 4; perhaps more important, though, are their last 6 results W4 D1 L1, winning 2-1 at Rotherham and 2-0 at Barnet, and at home beating Macclesfield 4-1 and Oxford 2-1, drawing 1-1 with Bury, and losing on Saturday to a decent Shrewsbury side 2-0; their away form is slightly better than their home form away its W6 D3 L5 F18 A13
Overall their League record is P28 W11 D6 L11 F37 A34 for 39 points and 10th place; were on 33 points fromn 26, F37 A 39, lying 16th; should be a decent game!
In the transfer window they let go Algerian midfielder Sofiene Zaaboub, who only played 6 games since joining, to allow him to join Entent Sportive de Setif (an Algerian "top flight team", apparently! ), and loaned Luke Prosser to Rushden; they signed 21 year old ex Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer from Woking (sounds like he might have been a bit of a bad boy, according to the BBC), who so far has only made 5 sub appearances, and also brought in ex Reims, Swindon and Cardiff (and Guadeloupe international!) Miguel Comminges, a 28 year old defender; hes featured twice, once from the bench
48 goals in all competitions from 35 games; leading scorers are summer-signing 63 Irish striker Barry Corr from Exeter with 12, ex Chelsea midfielder Anthony Grant on 7, striker (and bosss son) Blair Sturrock (another summer signing, this time from Mansfield) with 5, and Tunisian defender Bilel Mohsni (who got their equaliser against us) signed after a trial, his last club being French League CFA-2 side Sainte Genevieve Sports also with 5; given that hes only played 20 games, 5 goals and 6 yellow cards is a fair return, you might think
.. They certainly do cosmopolitan, do Southend ........
The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 12th February. Were playing well, by all accounts, and doing it unto others ( )
. So; resounding triumph? Thumping victory? Moody point? Battering? Who knows? Who cares? (We do!)
Good luck to everyone
and thanks for playing!
