I rewatched Alan Bennett's 1975 play, Sunset Across the Bay , this week.
The main character said to his wife, before going into a toilet on the prom,
'I'm just going to shed a tear Mother.'
Amused me, though I'd never heard it before.
Must be a Yorkshire thing.
