Here's a little poser for you...take the population of Lancashire and divide it by the number of League teams then take the population of Herefordshire.......

Fact is, Wolves, WBA, Villa and Brum City are closer to North Herefordshire than Edgar Street is.

Well done for beating a team who put in a pathetic performance on Saturday but please get your facts right.

Re: Hereford Have Left The Building

now bear with me cos I'm doing some googling and cutting and pasting, so give me 10 minutes or so:

Hereford (pronounced ['he-re-ford] or ['herɪfəd]) Welsh: Henffordd (pronounced ['hεnfɔrð] "Henforth") is a city in the west of England, close to the border with Wales and on the River Wye. It is the county town of Herefordshire. In 2001 Hereford had a population of 50,154.

Accrington is a small former mill town in Lancashire, England; situated in the North West. The 2001 census gave the population of Accrington town proper as 35,203.

AA Routeplanner gives the mileage to what I can see as your nearest football league rivals as being 63 miles to Wolverhampton or 93 miles to Swansea?

Accringtons nearest rivals 5 miles to Blackburn, 6 miles to Burnley, 12 miles to Preston or Bury or Rochdale ....... in fact within 63 miles we would probably have 20 clubs vieing for attention. Its not our fault that the North West is a hotbed of football. Its not your fault that you have nobody anywhere near you. I am not for one minute suggesting that you draw fans from a 63 mile radius BUT .... you have a population draw of nearly half as much again as what we have. You also have absolutley no competition regards local rivals poaching your fans. And this is not exclusive to just paying customers... it extends to being able to charge more for match day sponsorship, being able to flood every local shop or business premise with raffle tickets or scratchcards or merchandise of any description .... Hereford SHOULD have a turnover of three times ours ... in fact it should probably be considerably more than that. You are in a unique geographical position and perhaps should be the sleeping giant that some of your fans spout you should be.

Anyways, good luck for the future and I hope that we will renew rivalries next season, but forget the one after that because we aint finished yet with our rise up the leagues!

Re: Hereford Have Left The Building

Fair play to you Macca...google is your friend. Fact is, a lot of people do travel to the big clubs from Hereford just like they do from all other "non-Prem" cities. In Hereford we have a Man U fan club, a Liverpool fan club and most likely a Dinamo Chel$ki fan club. Our population is, as you say, probably about a third greater than Accy and we presently get gates which slightly exceed that ratio. I have a mate who lives in the north of the county and he can be in West Broms car park quicker than it takes him to get to ES. (sheep on the roads etc.). The biggest problem we all face is effing Sky TV and the way the fat is creamed off by the destroyers of English (tongue in cheek) football. Anything below Prem and maybe Championship at a push has been shafted by our tosspot FA as usual.....always mindful of their fat unjustified salaries of course.

Happy Days. (You have mail)

Oh, and BTW, Swansea is in Wales so it doesn't count
