2017/18 Prediction League; Game 30 v Crawley Town (away)

Accrington Stanley

2017/18 Prediction League; Game 30 v Crawley (away)

There are only two sides in League Two with four wins in their last five, and the other one is Wycombe ……………. There is only one side which has won its last four in the League; this week’s starter for …………. No, hang on, that’s a bit too easy even for youse lot!

Dunces’ caps for Barnet this week - one point from 5, but don’t take it personally Mr Westlife (mmmwwwahahahahaha); Grimsby in 16th also have 1, 11th-placed Colchester have 3 (3 draws, 2 defeats), Yeovil, PV and Cheltenham have 4, Stevenage 5, and Crewe and Vegan Greenpeace have 6 ………….and talking of Vegan Greenpeace, sounds like Revived Red was right in his assessment of Dayle Grubb, who they signed from Much Binding in the Marsh (sorry, Weston-super-Mare); his debut game, DG scores twice, and FGR win 5-2 against Cambridge (for whom Piero was neither playing nor on the bench; any ideas anyone?) ………… I suggest that RR be appointed Stanley’s Chief West of England Scout with immediate effect! Zero hours contract, I’m afraid, but all the pies you can scoff …………

Their only foray into the transfer market since we played them just before Christmas has been to release defender Addison Righteous Adam Garnett (who started his College soccer career with the Missouri State Bears, joining Hendon - the football club, not the Police Training College - in 2016, and managing four games in two years); he went by MutualConsent to Unattached FC (who have a massive squad, it must be said)

We met Crawley at Fortress Wham on 23rd December 2017, but sadly we’d left our drawbridge down, and they plundered us 3-2, going 2 up in 10 mins and 3-0 up on 41; Billy Whizz got one back on 45+1 and Big Ben “Banjo Band” Richards-Everton got us to within one, but it was too late; we were despoiled and undone …….. and we should always remember what our mothers told us about being undone, which is why we were despoiled in the first place! ……………..In 2016/17 we drew 0-0 at theirs and won 1-0 at ours (Shay McTartan with the goal), and in 2015/16 we beat them 3-0 away (Josh McWindass, Gobby Crooks and Billy Whizz) and 4-1 at home – having been 1-0 down at half time - Billy Whizz again, Matty Barnsley-Pearson, Captain Conneely and Piero (see above) with the goals ……………… Crawley’s only good news, really, is that they’ve just beaten Eastbourne Borough 4-3 aet to reach the semi-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup …………..Not sure if the winners get a place in Europe ……………..

Currently they’re 14th in League Two on 36 points; at home it’s P14 W5 D2 L7 GF13 GA14 (they don’t do GoalFests, obviously) and away it’s P14 W5 D4 L5 GF15 GA19, for an overall P28 W10 D6 L12 GF28 GA33 ……….. leading scorers (League only) are MF Jordan Roberts and Dutch striker Enzio Boldewijn with 6 each, and MF Jimmy Smith with 5 ……………..no-one else has more than two.

Between 21st November and 13th January they hit a purple patch, winning six from nine, although their last three wins were against Stevenage, Barnet and Yeovil; the purple patch faded last Friday, though, when they fell 2-1 at Newport (isn’t it; look you); they’ve also failed to score eleven times in the League, keeping nine clean sheets

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00 pm on Saturday 27th January. On current form – and as the form team, with more goals, wins and points, plus a not-too-bad record against them, we ought to be in with a decent chance. But then, Bananarama-topping Macclesfield no doubt thought that on Saturday when they went to Mill Farm to play new boys AFC Fylde …………………… and they were 4-0 down by half time and 6-0 down by the end; spanking or what? Be warned ……………….. You heard it here first!

Good luck to everyone! ………….. Keep the Faith! ………………. And thanks for playing!

oh dear, 4 wins on the spin - go 2nd if we win - hopefully I'll make my first game this term = nosebleed time, so recipe for disaster.
Crawley 3 Stanley 1

Will be delighted to be made to look a fool.
