Gillingham Match Thread
After posting the match thread for last Tuesday’s superb 5-0 victory over Newport County, I suppose I have to start this one too! Of course we welcome John and Jimmy back to The Wham Stadium. I hope that they both get a good reception but only before kick off. Once the whistle goes for the start of the match I hope we hammer their team and they go home absolutely gutted!
Another three points for Stanley is the most important thing tomorrow, whether or not it is 5-0 again or by a 1-0 own goal by Gillingham!
Once again our support is paramount and we can all try our utmost to be that twelfth man just like last Tuesday!
ON STANLEY ON!

HT 1-0 us. Didn't see the goal, but their keeper made a brilliant double save around 20 minutes in..bastard.

Re: Gillingham Match Thread
See Coyle conceded another free kick to Nelson of all people from which the opposition scored. If it was last ditch took one for the team fair enough but otherwise......

"Undone by shocking refeeing there. Coyle has clearly been taken out of it. A bat would have seen that"
Free kick = miscarriage of justice against Coyle?

Re: Gillingham Match Thread
Coyle’s mistimed tackle was bad enough, but how can you leave a player completely unmarked in the penalty area in injury time?

Re: Gillingham Match Thread
Well, given the return of the football genius, it seems appropriate to raise the shocking standard of refereeing.
Never hear John Doolan complaining about the ref, which is a great relief, but he had some cause on Saturday.
OK, leaving a wide player unmarked and Crellin letting it go through him was poor but, as that wide player received the ball, the Gill’s no. 5 clearly shoved Coyle to the ground to stop him trying to block the shot. Coyle may or may not have done so, but it just about summed up the poor officiating throughout the game.

Referee Breakspeare is currently IMHO the worst referee of the current generation of referees! He is on a par with the worst referee of the previous generation….one Mr Kettle! Breakspeare allowed continuous shirt pulling throughout the match from both sides on Saturday. He was very easily completely conned by the ‘falling to ground’ tactic by the Gillingham players. When two opposing players were rightly battling for a fifty/fifty ball whichever player went to the ground first automatically got the free kick. Breakspeare was just awful and ruined the match for me!
