Re: Helicoptors/ orange lights over Oswaldtwistle

I once watched someone filling bin bags with hydrogen and oxygen mix. He put little time fuses on them and let them float away. Very dangerous but very funny. One had to much oxygen in it so would not float, it made a hell of a band when it went off in an Accy back street.

I was a little worried he had a full size oxygen and hydrogen tank in this woman's front room in front of the lit gas fire though

Plenty of sprouts will give the wind but dont get too close with a naked flame or there would be a genuine UFO.

Definitely lanterns as a few were seen dropping into Rishton. Still a bit of an odd sight if you've never seen one before though.

Used to sell them here (Germany) but the other Summer a couple came down & set fire to people's shed, major hooha, result, banned now but you can still buy them over the Border in Holland.

I was listening to Radio 4 yesterday, as a farmer was calling for a ban.
Some farm animals have eaten bits of them with nasty results.
They are litter after all - unless you track them and pick them up when they fall.

plus up here people are mistaking them for distress flares the plonkers should know better being next to the sea, must be costing the rescue services a fortune..
