Press Officer
I see that we now have a Press Officer. I can't recall any official announcement about that. Anyway, congratulations Martyn.
One of the challenges at interview probably went something like this :
Rearrange the following words into a well-known phrase or saying : WEEK NEXT.

Re: Press Officer
On reflection, I think we should be helping Martyn with his unenviable role. After all, there is only a limited number of times that he can use "next week" in his press releases without it becoming tedious and, frankly, difficult to believe.
So I'll be the first to suggest an alternative : "within the next few days".
It may be possible that there are cynics out there, so perhaps a warning should be given. "Never" is not an option.

Re: Press Officer
I like the interview idea and if this is the start of updating communication between Club, Fans and the wider media then it is a good long positive overdue move.
My only worry is with budgets at the Club is the team behind the scenes seems to be growing which is perhaps also overdue but the team to the front of the scenes appears to be shrinking?
Find the balance and you will find success

Re: Press Officer
a few words to help him along
shortly, imminently, presently, quickly, proximately, almost immediately - never again please, in the next few days or next week.
seriously this is an overdue appointment and will hopefully bridge a few gaps and ensure the club is kept forefront in the local media without the embarrassment of quotes we've endured over the last couple of years. I'd like to echo Revived Reds call for us to help him rather than hinder him, and to keep nitpicking to a minimum.

Re: Press Officer
A few phrases that I hope he will be using ...
"players have been paid", "taxman has been paid", "bills have been paid", "accounts have been filed"
Still, congratulations Martyn. It's good to see the Club becoming more professional and more like a Football League Club off the pitch and not just on it.

wouldn't worry about the budgets as regarding the press officer, on fishy it says a 3 week temporary placement, so my guess is its costing very little or nowt, just seems like its n experience thing, which will benefit both parties.

Not that i want to knock initiative, but 3 weeks ?? not really long enough to benefit the club really, be nice to have a longer placement tho to really make the difference. Hope he has a lot of backbone for the post it will be needed

Re: Press Officer
Bonjour all
Just to shed a bit of light on the situation...
The arrangement with UCLAN is that students get the chance to do work experience at the club and contribute to the website, programme etc. It's great experience for them and helpful for the club. And as was rightly mentioned earlier it costs nowt.
Having Martyn around will take some of the pressure off other club staff who have to do some press stuff in addition to their other (considerable) duties in other fields.
From the last week of the month there will be a selection process for a new batch of students - designed to help them improve their skills and to give the club a wider pool of part time, cost effective contributors.
As some of you know, last season there was an arrangement between myself and the club to do things like match previews, reports and interviews. Whether that continues or not depends on the financial situation I guess.
Hope this all helps!
Dan
