Information on Blacksmith's in Accrington area
Could any tell me how I could find out information on Blacksmith's in the Accrington area around 1879.
I live quite a long way from Accrington so I am not able to go into local studies libraries in the area. Has anyone any suggestions? |

Re: Information on Blacksmith's in Accrington area
Don't know of any in Accy other than Fitspatrick, but that was 1970's I think
My grandfather was a blacksmith in blackburn 1945 +. A lot of happy memories helping during school holidays |
Re: Information on Blacksmith's in Accrington area
Are you looking for blacksmith shops or people who were blacksmiths? If it,s the latter you can go into the 1881 census and find them. I glanced through it last night and found 20 blacksmiths, didn,t realise Accy had so many back then. When I was a lad the only one was Fitspatricks opposite the slaughter house.

Who or whatever you are looking for, your best bet would be the county records office in Preston, though you have to make an appointment to go as you can not just turn up.

Thanks everyone for the information on Blacksmiths. What I needed to know if anyone had heard of a John Catlow who was a blacksmith around 1870 in Oswaldtwistle area. What census site were all the blacksmith on?
Thanks Wendy |
