Meet and greet
Thursday, 15th December 2005
3.45pm - 6.15pm I'll be in the lounge at the Town Hall in Oswaldtwistle if anyone wants to come along and meet me. As I'm not campaigning yet, I want to hear everyone's views about Oswaldtwistle and about things that they would like to see happen in the town. A few friendly faces would be welcome. Come along and say hello! |

I'm sure he will Less, and I will do likewise and wish him all the best!
Once again, I'm amazed at how you've managed to find such a perfect representation of me! But, in the interests of fairness you really should balance out your posts with some pictures of my opponent, I would hate for people to say that this site is biased! |

Re: Meet and greet
Seeing as your not campaigning so you don't have to worry about the expense I hope you will be supplying chocolate biscuits with the tea and coffee.

Re: Meet and greet
You need to re think you budget policy. You can't bribe/persuade people to vote for you with plain digestives.
|
Re: Meet and greet
I didn't know you were so easy, Neil!!!!! If chocolate digestives worked with everyone I'd just buy a packet for each household and be done with the leaflets/campaigning side of things.
|
Re: Meet and greet
Would your £600 plus 5p for each person on the electoral roll stretch to that?
|
Re: Meet and greet
I don't know - I don't actually know yet how much my budget will be. It will be announced when I officially step forward for candidacy through the due process early in the New Year.
|
Re: Meet and greet
When you mentioned money the other day I was interested. The above figures are what I found. Might be out of date now of course.
|
Re: Meet and greet
In that case, that's going to be really easy to keep under budget - chocolate biscuits it is then!
|
Re: Meet and greet
How many houses/voters are in St. Andrews? Is it the smallest ward in Ossy?
|
Re: Meet and greet
Please slow down. Us three were the three names mentioned as being the Ossy mafia who have taken over Accy Web, thus making it not as good as 'the old days'.
Boo hoo.;) |
Re: Meet and greet
Neil, there are about 2,000 residences and it's the biggest ward in Ossy.

Re: Meet and greet
Just in case anyone is in any doubt about this meet and greet session.
It is an opportunity for people from Oswaldtwistle (St Andrew's Ward) to come along and say hello to me. It's a chance for them to tell me what they would like to see happen in Oswaldtwistle in the future. I hope to see a few friendly faces there. |

Re: Meet and greet
I know St Oswald's is actually the biggest in terms of area - it covers Knuzden and Belthorn and Stanhill areas so if you were on foot it would be a heck of an area to cover.
St Andrew's is mostly made up of terraced houses so is much more compact but I think has the larger population which was what I meant when I called it the biggest. I'll double check. |
Re: Meet and greet

St Andrews 3470 St Oswalds 5201 But yes I agree with you St Andrews could be considered to be "the centre of ossy" people living in Belthorn, Stanhill & Knuzden would only be interested in their own areas and not ossy |
Re: Meet and greet
I think peopole who live in Belthorn and Knuzden don't really consider themselves to be part of Hyndburn, let alone Ossy.
I'm always willing to be corrected when I'm wrong. |

Re: Meet and greet
Well it went ok - didn't get a huge turn out but then again I didn't expect a huge turnout. Big topics for debate actually turned out to be the light in Rhyddings Park and of course, parking along Union Rd.
|
Re: Meet and greet
What was the feed back from the light? Good or bad?
|
Re: Meet and greet
Bad. Said it attracted groups of youths like moths to a flame!
|
Re: Meet and greet
Lol. The Park Lane brigade still at it:)
Well from what we've seen there is less loitering, and although there is still some vandalism, the playground is in a hell of a lot better state for the children than when it was hidden away under the trees behind the Stop and Rest. Perhaps that's why I'm having trouble sleeping? Although Mum lives facing the park, I live half a mile away. Can light travel downhill and round corners?;) |
Re: Meet and greet
At the last Friends meeting someone asked if the clock could be reset on the light because it now goes off one hour earlier than before the clocks changed. He stated that with the light going off early more people are congregating around the playground. A couple of members of the neighbourhood watch said there were less numbers around the play area than before the light. Personally I would like to see the whole park lit along the paths etc. I am very concerned about the safety of people walking their dogs during darkness, which is very early at this time of year.
Did the people you spoke with have any ideas for an improvement Gayle? What about CCTV on the play area? The bowling green is now covered by CCTV. I was talking with our local police beat manager last Sunday, he informed me he has made several arrests in the park over the last few weeks. Not only local Oswaldtwistle youths but also some from Clayton-le-Moors. |
Re: Meet and greet
The lighting of the whole of the park was one of my questions to PB when the single light was first discussed. I would hope that it would be included in any park refurbishment.
The bowling green, given the light levels in that area, and knowing they are using the same kit as the RPNHW, don't think the CCTV will be any good at night. If the light in the play area is attracting groups of youths like moths to a flame, then it's having the result the residents of park lane said it would. On a technical point regarding "the light" it is not the type or size of column that HBC applied for in the planning application. Oh on a point of interest the street lighting for park lane used to be "in the park" along side the bottom path. |

Re: Meet and greet
Sorry I.m new. Was'nt aware of this thread. RIDICULOUS......Nobody turned up to meet and greet Gayle, yet my old Aunt told me that when Britcliffe visited her estate the other day the whole estate seemed to turn out to meet him. Anyway, Don.t let the buggars get you down. Take a rest.a step back and have a good 'un.;) ;)

Re: Meet and greet
I wish I had an old Aunt with a large estate.

Re: Meet and greet

I do agree that more lighting on the paths but would make it safer. The whole reason the light works at the play area is because they can be seen if they are up to mischief, this sadly wouldn't be the case if it was put on the bowling greens. |

Re: Meet and greet
???????????????????????
I've no need to lie you plonker. We can sit on the sofa and see quite clealy the play area. Which I'm pleased to report is now mainly filled with children enjoying the equipment, which they couldn't before when it was under the trees and hidden away, and very often vandalised so there wasn't a single thing for the children to play on. Since you no longer live near the park, I really don't see what you have such a bee in your bonnet about. |
Re: Meet and greet
Your argument may have been better if the photograph had actually been taken from the play area, rather than taken from above it.
I'm not getting into an argument with you about this again, we've been here many times before. I think the play area is in a much safer, less dark place, and also less prone to vandalism, where the children can play safely in the sunshine. You and some of your friends do not, for whatever reason, though the main argument seems to be that it has spoilt their view, which to me seems rather a selfish reason. The park is for everyone to enjoy. End of my case. There will be no further discussion from me on this subject. |

That's squirels and logic for you.;) |

Re: Meet and greet
No that pics ok, I just didn't want one showing her house that people could work out exactly where she lived.
Cheers. The above reply was my pm in return to yours, quite clearly stating I had no objection to the picture you attached to your post, I just didn't want anymore that did show her house. Are you this bumptious at home? If you are I may well have to pop over to the Knuzden area with a gold medal for Mrs Squirel, she must deserve it.:) |

Re: Meet and greet
Photograph one shows me sitting on the sofa, and Mum brushing her hair upstairs. We have an even better view from the actual site of the play area, rather than just below it, from where the photograph was took from.:)

Re: Meet and greet

Thing is, I think the people who I spoke to would probably be happy if the trees were blocking off the light a bit because it does shine in to their house. Perhaps some lleylandi (or however it's spelt) might just be the simple answer. |

Re: Meet and greet

There was an agreement with PB and one of HBC's parks persons to plant some shrubs in front of the play area when it was first installed. HBC in fact issued a small drawing showing the shrubs. HBC's planning officer in his/her summing up of the planning application for the light refered to the play area as " the unfortunate siting of the play area on the brow of a hill" |

Re: Meet and greet
The street lights were in the park, along the bottom path, HBC came along and stated "we are putting the lights here" there was against the stone gatepost between ours and next door.No I do not want that there, hence they did not put one there. As for burglars, we had a dog.
