Do You Want To Help The Pets In Rhyddings Park?

As reported in this weeks Observer and 107 The Bee, The Friends Of Rhyddings Park have taken over control of the Pets Corner within Rhyddings Park. This is a very important step for us. It will show both the residents of Oswaldtwistle and Hyndburn Borough Council what can be achieved by a group of local, dedicated residents.
The pets currently in the park will shortly be moved to a new home to allow us to refurbish Pets Corner. We will be introducing a wider selection of birds and animals after the refurbishment which, we hope, will be enjoyed by all Park visitors. The centre path through the area has been locked for many years restricting access to a large part of the area. This path will be reopened during the day allowing visitors full access to all the animals. I am really pleased that we will be able to open it to the public once again. The path being closed is one aspect of the park that many residents have told me they feel strongly about.

As reported we currently have several Friends working towards a nationally recognised qualification in animal care. We are still able to offer this training to others who are interested in looking after the pets on a day to day basis. Below is some information about the course from the training provider:

Quote:

Topics covered will be general animal care, basic first aid, heath and safety, dealing with the public, stock control, feeds and bedding and with particular emphasis on the type of animals you have or intend to have. The tuition will include practical handling, practical tasks, grooming and recognition of sign of ill health.

If anyone is interested in the training or helping with the refurbishment or in fact any other aspect of the park please send me a private message.

Congratulations on your funding Neil. Hope it all goes well for you.

You haven't had an overwhelming response to this have you? Hope you get the volunteers you need.

That is the problem with any type of advertisment. You have to find out how to reach the people you want. I expect more people will want to become involved when they see what can be achieved.

Try an A5 full colour mail shot. Photos of the woolly things on the front and all the text on the back and make in poignant, not a rainbow job. :p

Expensive? Doesn’t have to be, ask Mrs Knight :) for assistance with funding, ask around the local print shops or ask a cartridge shop to sponsor it by donating ink and paper.

If your getting the training free how about approaching Ryddings School. Lots of potential guinea pigs there...:)

Thanks for the ideas mate.
I think we might get into trouble if we look up some school kids in pens though :)

Although you can see the path running through the middle, I can never remember it being open, and I speak as someone who was there with my bread the day it opened.

Re: Do You Want To Help The Pets In Rhyddings Park?

I'll take you for a walk when we open it.
I wonder how many do remember the path being open?

I was trying to help by pushing it back up to the top again to get people reading it.

That's kind.

It just seemed a little negative, given the time scale.

This'll do the same then.:)

Aren't we both public spirited today then?

Is it me, is there a little bit of tension in the air? Personally I think Gayle had the right idea, other than asking for a sticky a thread like this could disappear into the depths of Accyweb quite quickly and therefore there is mileage in keeping it going. Hence this post. :)

Re: Do You Want To Help The Pets In Rhyddings Park?

Well Pets Corner is a ghost town.
All the animals went off to their new homes today leaving the area very quiet.

Gayle 11-02-2006 21:24

Re: Do You Want To Help The Pets In Rhyddings Park?

So how many are living at your house at the moment?

Neil 11-02-2006 21:26

Re: Do You Want To Help The Pets In Rhyddings Park?

Only one furry creature lives here. Our cat. Unless we have mice then the cat is a waste of time :)

So where are the foster homes?

Why what do you think I'd do? I'm on a diet! I've sworn of fatty foods like duck and rabbit!

I am not going to say where but they are still in Hyndburn.
We still have the Council squirrels and the odd fox in the park.

:) There’s a fantastic ready stuffed one in the Antiques shop opposite the Town Hall. If I had the room for it I would have had it. It’s a corker set in low brush on a solid redwood plinth. It would look brilliant in the corner of the Stag. :D

I would not like to comment on what type of plants we are growing there ;)

We are still trying to secure the extra funding that we need to complete the project.

Never one to criticise, but....wouldn't it have been sensible to secure the funding first?

Where are the little bunnikins being kept?

I hope your wife isn't keeping rabbits under the bed!
