Rogue Trader in Ossy.

I'm livid.

Last March my mother bought a small freezer, from a shop in Ossy. She'd seen one there already, but when she went in it had gone, so they told her they'd order one for here.

The freezer arrived...and never worked properly from day one. The motor ran all the time, and the whole thing became a block of ice. My mum telephoned them repeatedly, and eventually they took it back in April, supposedly to be repaired.

This has been going on all last year, and they've had it back four times, and it has never worked. The top drawer freezes solid, and the bottom drawer of the three, doesn't freeze anything.

On Monday of this week my brother and my mum returned the freezer to the shop. He told them he's send it back to his supplier, and then she could have her money back. I've worked in retail, and that's rubbish. Mum phoned him, explained the legality of refunds for faulty goods, and said she'd come in today, for her money back.

My brother took her in, and he's now refusing to return any money at all, as he said it only had a three month guarantee. Again this is bunkum, as new goods are covered in law by a twelve month contract. He basically threatend my brother, and they had to leave the shop empty handed. The shop has CCTV, otherwise my brother wouldn't have left the shop empty handed!!!

The shop is called Multi Tech, and is at 187 Union Road, on the corner of Chapel Street, facing Emric Eccles the chemists.

This man has made a big mistake. My family has been in business in Ossy for over sixty years, and you can't treat people like this and expect to stay in business. His name will be mud, and as many people as possible will get to know about his shoddy attitude.

My Mum, isn't a weak woman, though she is a pensioner and a widow, but I don't want this firm to rip anybody else off, particularly those people who may be weak, such as the elderly, who don't have the strength to fight back.

Happily we do have the strength, and will be fighting back. The money isn't a fortune, but it is the principle.

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

It certainly is the principle and good on you for sticking to your guns. The shop should very well know that your contract is with them and they should jolly well make sure you have a working freezer. (Well your Mum should.) A clock shop once tried to fob us off when we bought a clock from them which didn't work but we stood our ground and insisted on it being replaced with a clock that did work. It wasn't a tuppeny ha'penny clock but a large wooden westmister chimes thing with pendulums and what not.

Well done garinda, I have fought against people like this all my life, and just occasionally it is appreciated, unfortunately, there is far more of this attitude than most people realise, I love it when they are exposed for thier greedy, exploitation and there 'goodwill' which is rife with clauses, believe it or not, some of the big companies are the worst, anybody who knows what I do will know who I mean, and they have been getting away with it for years, but more so since they became a plc. I hope you have a good outcome to this garinda, and that it doesn't upset your mum too much.

That's the one, next to Johnathon's/Arena's hairdressers.

They sell all kinds of electrical stuff...including dodgy freezers.

Just imagine how quick he would refund if we all stood outside with banners and posters

No business for a whole day :D

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

Usually quoting the "sale of goods act " is enought to put the wind up them , also throw in that the goods purchased must be " fit for purpose "
then the Trading standards card should be enough. Keep at it !:)

Hope they lose loads of business, its no way to treat anyone, write to the Observer:)

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

Better than a picket would be over a day to go in the shop in pairs, look around then ask what the name of the shop is...when they say...look at each other and say...oooo eck this is the shop we were warned not to buy from and leave pronto :D

I'd be livid too. Don't let them get away with it.

garinda 10-01-2008 23:14

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

Thanks for your support.

They won't get away with it.

I've always been a bit wary of similar threads, thinking that businesses might suffer on the word of one person, with no concrete proof.

In this case I've been there from the start last March, and have seen the shoddy way they trade right from the begining, so have no qualms about posting what I think.

If they don't like it then they can sue me, but since what I've posted is true, they haven't a hope in hell.:)

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

This is what I love about Ossy. It may have a population of about 12,000 people, but sometimes it's just like a village, with gossip spreading quicker than the pox in a bawdy house.

My brother's shop has an average of 1,500 customers a week. Most of whom were today treated to this tale of this man's bully boy tactics, and appalling business practice. Indeed two people I hardly know stopped me in the street, to tell me they'd heard about Multi Tech's dealings with my mum.:D

The Ossie Mafia eh Garinda ? :D

I would just e-mail this thread to him (can't be difficult finding the address) with a copy to the manufacturers, that will stop him in his tracks.

I was going to print it off and go in and give it to him, but my brother is following the more correct legal route, so I thought better of it...for the time being.:D

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

On a link from HBC's website I found this, Magpie's site, which shows 'shops on Union Road'.

Suprisingly, only one shop is listed, and yes, it's Multi Tech!

'We offer an electronics repair service, where we will do our utmost to offer you the best advice from our qualified technicians: If its broke and we can fix it, then trust us we will.'

Yeah right...course you do!!!

it was wierd to find this thread, a friend is having problems with them at the min with a faulty lcd tv he bought, been trying to get it fixed for a month now, but hes never at the shop only ever manage to get hold of him thursday morning when he is setting his flea market stall up

Re: Rogue Trader in Ossy.

(First time I've read this thread) FWIW, I bought an electric cooker from Multitech in Feb 2009. It was a real bargain, worked perfectly, no problems. So perhaps this thread has had a positive effect on him, so thanks for that. Also I noticed he's taken to doing market stalls and his shop seems no longer in use for selling.

Sorry to read that.

I'm always very wary when people use this forum to slate local firms.

After the rude, threatening, and appalling lack of service offered to a customer of his, who happens to be my mother, I couldn't care less. It's sadly all true.

If he doesn't like it I'll happily see him in court.

Be warned.

I found out the other day, I don't know if it is true but allegedly someone else does the repairs for him. So that maybe the main reason why he messes people about with repairs, if anything goes wrong he has to pay someone else to fix them.

I opened a shop 3 and a half weeks ago accross road from his shop, and can gladly say his shop will soon be a salon, the only problem i'm having now is people seem to think my new shop doing refurbed domestic appliances is his new shop which is not the case and I have no connection to him at all, was told this from a few residents of the Oswaldtwistle area who called in to check if it was true

Went past the other day, and saw it said it was going to be a tanning salon or something.

Good luck to them, and to your new shop too.

I won't be sad, to see him go.
