Strange as it may seem, I think you have issues, yes we know there are men that prey on young girls, (in fact children of either sex!), I and probably most of the men on here don't do that sort of thing, but you always seem to find these horrific threads.

We all know it goes on, we also know that we all have to be vigilant to prevent it happening to others, but it needs to be an effort made by both men and women, not just brushed aside as if it's always and only the men that cause this to happen.

Some child complains to you, No I don't believe that of Fred, (apologies to Freds), most women ignore or go into denial, isn't that something worth taking urgent action over?

Before I start I must make it clear that I think any 44 yr old man that wants to have sex with a 14 year old girl is a bit odd and vice versa. However, just a few things strike me with this case - the fact that they were 'swapping texts' does indicate that there may possibly have been a bit of encouragement or leading on from the girl too. Not a real excuse but is it possible that a widower may have been feeling vulnerable and felt genuine love for the young girl?

Pervert is such an extreme word when there's no evidence that he repeatedly preys on young girls.

As the courts have decided that the man is in the wrong then clearly he was and should therefore be punished. However, if there's the slightest bit of doubt isn't he just misguided and stupid and not exactly a pervert!

I knew a guy once, met a girl in a nightclub, took her home (he was 25 and single), the inevitable happened, the morning after she got into trouble because she had stayed out all night (she was 14), she cried rape, he got 5 years! The main gripe here is, he was a good looking lad, with the pick of the girls, he chose this lass presuming she was of age, her being in a nightclub and all, I knew him for around 10 years, and was as sure as I could be that he would not commit the rape of any woman/girl of any age, so in my opinion, it isnt always quite what it seems.

My daughter is 15 and nearly 6ft when she is dressed up she would possibly pass for 18 but some girls dont look 18 especially at 14...maybe being drunk doesnt help realising this, but men of 40 something shouldnt even be looking at girls at that age or 16 or 18..its just wrong :(

There are also a lot of 40+ women who look at young men, when david beckham was 18, he had an army of 40+ women after him! A confident 15 year old well matured girl, would have no problem luring a 40 year old, lonely, single man, it works two ways, I am not defending him, just trying to put it into better perspective.

It is the end shop on the same block as Moorend chippy. Just before Oakleigh dental centre. He's not there any more, the shop's called Cutmaster Swift now.

he is perverted, a 14 year old lass is not fully developed at all, phyiscally as well as mentally. He at 40 odd years old should know better.

So in December when I am 40 will I need some sort of therapy if I see an 18 year old topless model in the newspaper and have evil thoughts about her. Then again I think they can pose for page 3 at 16 still can't they?

Sorry, but you're wrong. I work with a lot of young people and a lot of them look and act far older than they are. They wear makeup from the age of 9 now, by 12 they're in push up bras and short skirts and by the time they're 14 they're going out drinking in pubs.

I agree with you to a point about young girls looking much older than they are, but this guy knew exactly what he was doing and exactly how old this girl was, by the fact he told her not to tell anybody or he'd get into trouble

One of my mates has a good friend who has had a similar thing happen to him. He came out of prison a "changed person" because of what happened while inside.

Incidentally, I know a girl who went out twice in 2008 with the barber in the story (the incident he's just been jailed for was the year before). She's just come in stunned at the Telegraph article because he's on the front page.They never got any further because his text messages to her were "offputting".

This is what I'm thinking too, Jaysay.

I can understand what Gayle is saying about girls looking a lot older than their years due to clothes and make-up and I can understand how a man might meet a girl in a pub and believe her to be 18 and then be shocked later to find out she's only 14.

I don't know all the details of this case but it seems clear that this man knew the girl was only 14 and he told her not to tell anyone or he'd get into trouble.

Struggling to have relationships with women since becoming a widower does not excuse this in my book. :(

I think when he is telling the young girl to duck down when she was in his car as well as telling her that if she tells anyone his kids will go into care clearly this is a very manipulative man. As far as I am concerned he is a child molester and obviously knew what he was doing was wrong.
And as far as the discussion regarding young girls looking older than what they are sex with a minor is sex with a minor. That's why it is a good idea to get to know your sexual partners first instead of meeting in a club, having sex and then asking the important question like how old are you, and that goes both ways.

just read all of the posts and i do think its terrible BUT some(and i'm not talking about the girl in the link) 14,15 year old girls DO go out of their way to get older men and enjoy the older men lavishing them with money and gifts....when i was at school several girls my age and a couple of years older where getting pregnant to older men (well much older than school age anyway)

some girls dress to impress the older man and make them think they are older, i know this is a different case that we are all talking about but some girls do know what they are doing and arent all innocent, 50% of the girls in my school year had lost their virginity by the time they where 15 and seemed to enjoy bragging about it

do the under age girls ever get prosecuted for having sex whilst themselves being under age? NO

take my karma or whatever you want to, i'm just telling it how it is, i'm not afraid to let people know my opinion on things

Do you ever hear of 16 or 17 year old lads being prosecuted for getting 15 year old girls pregnant. I know the age gap is smaller but it is still illegal.

As the recent child father story in the papers shows this happens the other way around as well. I bet she is not prosecuted if the DNA tests show the young boy is the dad :mad:

I totally agree that there are young girls out there who enjoy the idea of dating an older man and if the girl is of legal age then not a lot anyone can say. I may point out though that if I had a daughter of 17yrs I would certainly not encourage any relationship with a much older man.
Call me old fashioned but parents need to start parenting again, if your'e child is hanging out with someone much older then you as a parent need to start asking questions.
As for the Ossy barber this was clearly child molestation, he knew what he was doing was wrong.

hold on a minute, when i was 14/15 me and another accywebber used to 'hang out' with 'older guys' our parents didnt know a thing about it, yes all we where doing was hanging out, nothing more sinister, if the parents dont know about it then how can they do anything about it? i know for certain that my mum would have gone balistic if she found out (and she did eventually)

this has nothing whatsoever to do with 'bad parenting' kids can be secretive, i know i was at that age

Believe me I know about kids being secretive, it's knowing what you got upto is what makes it scary as a parent.
Trust me I have 4 kids 15, (my 15 yr old has disabilities so is supervised at all times)13, 10 and 5, I am just at the beginning of the teens with my 13yr old and already is becoming more distant. I will not allow him to go to any friends houses after school if I don't know them and if there are no parents at home. Last week he got an invite to a party with both boys and girls attending, I phoned the parents to make sure it was supervised. And when he gets mad, tells me it's not fair etc... too bad.
What I do know is that teens need to know is that they have choices and that they have to be accountable for the choices they make.

yeah, he knew she was 14 so yeah he is a pervert, what people are saying is that you cant always tell how old these girls are, i have a 15 and a 16 year old sister and they look older than they are....... there isnt any magical change in the way they look the day they turn 16 and its legal!

I agree with you totally he is a pervert because he knew how old she was. I can have some sympathy for people when they honestly do think the boy/girl is old enough.

I will say again sex with a minor is illegal.
Now in terms of age when someone is tellling you that if you don't participate something bad will happen , then as far as I am concerned no matter what age that amounts to rape. If you are forced by guilt or verbal abuse it is still wrong no matter what age you are.

if somone knowingly has sex with somone uderage then yes they are a pervert but if some poor sod picks somone up under age in a night club or whatever and is led to believe that person is older than they actually are then no that person is not a pervert

this guy in ossy was clearly a pervert but many people have found themsleves infront of a judge because they were lied to, i know one guy who met a girl in a night club when he was 23 and thought he had taken a 18 year old girl home when infact she was only 15 .When her mum found out she rang the police and had the lad arrested and when in court the girl was in her school uniform which was a far cry from the type of clothing she was wearing to get into the night club




luckily he avoided prison as the judge had common sense

and what if she still looks over 21? my mate has a son, he is 15 and 6ft 2, he went to the bowling alley the other week with his 25 year old sister, the bloke behind the bar refused to serve Joanne and went on to ask Sean what he wanted...he was going to serve a 15 year old with alcohol, Joanne was gobsmacked and had to go home to get some ID

it doesnt always work on age panther, just the look of someone can make them seem older

any parent with any sense would check out any story their child provided that meant them either coming back realy late or staying over night somewhere

almost 25 years ago my sister was brought home from the local pub by the Police. She was supposed to be at her twin friends house. They had supposedly gone for a walk to the local shop but instead went to the pub. The Police said they thought my sister was old enough but her friends obviously were not. They were very surprised when she admitted to being 14 :D:D

i was shocked when i read this about pete, i have kind of know him as he cut my hair for years and i remember when his wife died. i really dont know what went through his mind when he did this but its a lesson learned and a very harsh one at that, not only has he lost his freedom but also his kids :( he currently owns bentleys next to black dog but its been up for rent for last month.

thats the thing, not making excuses fer him, don't know him n have no need, when summat like that happens, grief can tip ya oer the edge, nearly did wi me, everyone reacts differently to tragedy, until youve really been there ya just don't know.

Take it from someone whos worked behind a bar for going on 10 years. You can't always tell. Most of these kids know what they are doing and dont act like their age. I certainly didnt when I was going clubbing at that age.

Luckily I have 2 younger brothers so I recognized a lot of the underage ones from being in my brothers years at school, and when it came in i ALWAYS used Challenge 21.

I worked as a bouncer for 10 years panther and its very hard to tell the age of some girls, easy telling the age of lads but girls made up to the nines and modern clothes ain't that easy believe me

I know grief does strange things to some but I've never heard of it turning anyone to paedophilia. :(

I know that the girl in question was 14 not 4 and many have said how difficult it is to tell the age of some girls but he knew this girl was only 14 and must have known that what he was doing was wrong.

Of course he knew what he was doing was wrong, he tried to make her feel guilty by telling her that if she told anyone his kids would go into care.
There is no defending this mans actions he molested a 14yr old and should pay the price.

LOL .. have done that already Caz, but not sure if up-to-date. e.g. South Carolina shows down to 14 with permission, but then when you google it separately shows 16. :confused: Thought someone may know for sure. Aww thanks Katex, she's just the right size too, (12), with 34 inch legs,she does carry it with pride, infact she wants heel shoes too so she can be taller!!! keep telling her and others have told her too, to be a model, but she wont....too shy:rolleyes:
