Palladium, Ossy - work going on

Anyone know what's going on? |

I do know it when I see it - the Mecca bingo club at Southport is a beautiful example (an ex Odeon cinema) The Palladium was never that posh even when in its prime. |

You never know what may have been hidden behind the chipboard....

Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
I once had to visit a caravan on that site many years ago(for work reasons).
The site was kept very clean and tidy and the caravan was quite spectacular inside - cut and engraved glass and Crown Derby pottery. Those caravan dwellers aren't 'travellers' |
Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
a friend of mine looked into buying the place a few years back but there was too much work needed to get it up to spec
usally when they are going to do somting with a building they stick posters on lamp posts near by to notify teh public as well as announce plans applied for in the local paper i can only guess that if not demolition then probably flats or as they liek to call flats in accrington ( luxury appartments ) roflmfao |

If it were being demolished, would have thought there would have been some sort of application .. maybe through LCC for dangerous building ..haven't seen anything as yet .. unless Claytonender has .. ? |
Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
Rumour has it that it has been acquired by a local gypsy ... and I do emphasise 'rumour' at this stage.

'that Italian guy' was Mr Saporiti who owned the Palace at the bottom of Rhyddings St. He patrolled his cinema and was at the door to thank the customers for attending his Palace. |

See there are some new 'For Sale' signs on it again... so won't be any plans for developing this building for a while I suppose.

I noticed them a couple of days ago - kept meaning to post on here but forgot - thanks Kate

Was in Oswaldtwistle this morning. Was rather surprised to read this "notice of intent" - first of all it's not dated, and secondly, why is it not on official Council letterheading? I find it rather odd.

Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
There has, as they say, a recent application for demolition by Everlux Electronics (the owners) in about 28 days ? Saw it the other day .. but Hyndburn's site down at the moment.. can't copy.
Think they may have been taking out the last of the interior fittings or something. Was a large skip there during the week. |
Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
It's back up again .. there you go :
11/10/0285 28 day prior notification: Demolition of Palladium Bingo building Union Road, Oswaldtwistle Accrington BB5 0EB Everlux Elec Ltd 29/6/10. |

Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
The 'Demolition' and 'For Sale' signs are still in place, but the 'Palladium' wording and all the surrounding concrete has been removed, leaving the brickwork, also, the roof has been repaired, which seems strange if it's going to be demolished.

Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
The two suggested uses in that news article are a climbing wall and a muslim wedding venue.
I recall that there was a restaurant in Blackburn that specialised in muslim weddings, and it didn't last long. Also there would be a parking problem for the hoards who attend such events, unless they come to an arrangement with Ossy Mills. A climbing wall - can't see much call for that around here when real rock climbing is within reasonable travelling distance. Such a wall wouldn't fill that cavernous interior, so seems a 'waste of space' is the right phrase to use there. If the building was yours, what commercial venture would suit? |

Don't Muslims get married in Mosques?

No and they have a wall at Blackburn

Re: Palladium, Ossy - work going on
Still think it's ugly, and of little architectural merit.
I wouldn't shed any tears if it was demolished. |

It's the right size for a Market Hall, and already has a balcony for use as a refreshment area. ;) (Since the 'death knell' is tolling for the Accrington one)
