NEW! Foxhill Bank Nature Reserve website

Hi everyone.

Just to let you know, there is now a website for the nature reserve http://www.foxhill-bank.org.uk

The site is still in development at the moment, but we thought we'd let you all have a sneak preview before it's officially launched.

Any feedback, negative or positive, would be greatly appreciated.

Likewise, if anyone feels they have relevant info that they would like to see on the site then please don't hesitate in contacting us at [email protected]

Thankyou,

Gary

Have you seen the Nature Reserve lately? It's a disgrace, overgrown, full of dog dirt, seats wrecked and the water is absolutely filthy. It's a wonder the ducks and swans are still alive. The sign coming into the reserve is so dirty it can't be read. So is the one that says Price Charles opened it or something. I don't think Charles would e very happy to see the place now. I for one won't be going again. No way!

The water went green and cloudy a few days ago because of the thundery weather. It happens everytime there's a storm, but soon clears up.

I could give you a daily water quality report every morning from my bed if you wish?:p

Does that depend on how much beer you drank the night before?

Been for a walk around the bank tonight: not a soul in site: Made me wonder how safe is it for a female to walk there along: I know not many places are safe today... like I would not dream of walking up the coppice anymore with all the druggies that hang around up there... so back to my point: Does any one know of any incidents that may have occurred there...

By the way it was lovely to see and I will be volunteering to help out... I have just moved to Oswaldtwistle...

thanks Yone

While I was in Ossy, my friend David took me for a walk though Foxhill. Picked up quite a bit of trash (beer cans, crisp wrappings, etc.) during the walk and found a bin to leave it in. At home, I notice that if a place looks like a trash heap, people will use it as one. If it looks clean, most folks will leave it that way.

BTW, I think that I saw the sign that was mentioned. Looks like the dirt is mostly mildew, as it had that nice green tinge. A bit of warm water with a bit of diluted soap and bleach might work wonders - if anyone cares to give it a go!

Maybe the Accyweb group could clean the place up before one of the meet-ups. All it takes is a few willing hands, some trash bags and a bit of time!

The water is looking less weird.

The ducks can again swim on the water...rather than walk on it.:)

I don't know. There is another entrance you can get into it from the row of houses facing the car park for Ossy Mills staff. They should put the map that is by the entrance on their website.

I would walk down to see if the bridge has reopened but it's spitting and it will spoil my hair.;)

I tried the other week too.:(

All the links take you to the company that created the site..in Morecambe!

Had a pleasant walk there on Saturday. The new bridge is up, and the paths are being repaired. There are even new rubbish bins, but sadly instead of being set in concrete, the posts was held by little stones, and they've all fallen over. Lets hope that when re-erected properly, someone empties them this time.

Hi,:dogrun:
I just join the accyweb community cos I saw there was quite a lot of stuff on about Ossy, foxhill esp. Just to let everyone know, I am on the committee for foxhill nature reserve and there is a volunteer day on sat 21st April. Meet on Mill hill car park at 10am. You can come along for an hour or so or stay the full day. We will be litter picking and starting to clean up the reserve. Everyone is welcome and all tools will be provided just bring some light refreshments for yourself and suitable clothing. :D
The vol group started back up last year but turnout was poor usually 2 or 3 of us. Its a good fun day and a free open air gym workout!! :Banane06:
