Hi Garden Doctor! Littlemo is one of the many expats here, she now lives in Canada so her seasons are a little different!! (hint to littlemo, update your profile, the info was not moved from the old site - just click on the User CP(control panel) from the menu at the top)

I thought that !
Right mo, given the useage of the proper equipment - either a propagator with a lid or a plant pot with a sandwhich bag over it and in the right place ( a window sill in a warm room ) you can grow any type of seeds so it doesnt matter about the snow ! - what I can recommend is if you are going to grow seeds be careful with your watering as you can over water which sometimes can lead to your soil becoming infected with certain types of fungus, this can be treated with a product called "chestnut compound" - brush this over your soil at the first signs of any infection and it should kill it off and stop any damage to your seedlings , some seeds can be trial and error and some are very easy to grow from - I think the easiest to grow are sunflower seeds which is why they grow them in school competitions !! Now with you being in canada there will be several different plants that you cannot get in this country (??) that are available to you that you may fancy growing so the choice there will be down to your better judgement. As for the planting seasons they may be slightly similar as to the UK - I am planting seeds just now (in a seed tray) in order to bring them on in mid April/may time - so by then they will be just right to plant out in the garden so I guess you could do the same also, all you have to do is look on the back of the seed packets - they tell you when to start planting them and when they will flower. I hope I have made some sense. |
