Know this young man is trying to stir us up into some sort of debate, however, always wondered if we cared about the time when you could earn money killing rats and didn't care how they met their demise .. doubt it .. they are not pretty enough. (Yuk) Is this the criteria ?

Not sure with rats Kate, they are vermin and spread disease but I personally don't agree with killing anything.

Yeh, know what you mean Tinkers I love animals, but some more than others if you know what I mean ... have double standards I guess, couldn't kill a fox, but could definitely hit a rat over the head with a shovel. Maybe just scared of them going for your throat when cornered.... is this an old wife's tale ?

I couldn't personally kill one. The only living thing I have purposely killed are wasps, though I do give them ample opportunity to escape via an open window before I get the spray out.

I do that too.. again they scare me. Had one in the canteen this week, had been there for a couple of weeks actually in that warm spell we got. Absolutely bl..dy huge. On floor getting dopey, trapped it under a beaker. Searched for male ... credit controller stuck paper over it and wham, bam size 8's squelched it into oblivion .. is a life, I suppose .. but ....... didn't cry into my coffee.

OMG! My sister did that the other week with a spider! I watched quite a big one crawl up the back of her jacket ........ I just said very calmly "hun you got a spider on your back" ......... well that was it HYSTERICS!! She ripped the jacket off and the spider fell on the floor, I went to get it with a beaker to throw it outside but she jumped on it! God I was mad at her :(
