my ex wife would beat all that.

she would wail her banchee wail.
stare them into submission.
get her claws out and do some damage.
throw everything at hand in their direction.
and then rip out their still beating hearts and eat it in front of them.

How on earth did you survive all that then? - You must have thought she was alright at one point or you wouldn't have married her!

Back to the different Petz idea - I don't think anyone could afford more than 1 pet at a time. But maybe you could sell your Dog back to the Pet Shop in exchange for different animal? That way when more are available people don't just let them die so they can get something else. (Am I taking this looking after Petz thing too seriously - someone remind me they're not real).
