thats a good question. spent alot of money on my dog. would hate to have to kill him off just to get a new one.

would it be possible to have 2 pets going at once. sort of keep your dog and then get one of those (yes i agree with lyndsay) polarbears. want a bad boy killer aswell. will spank all of my money on the bear.

How on earth did you survive all that then? - You must have thought she was alright at one point or you wouldn't have married her!

Back to the different Petz idea - I don't think anyone could afford more than 1 pet at a time. But maybe you could sell your Dog back to the Pet Shop in exchange for different animal? That way when more are available people don't just let them die so they can get something else. (Am I taking this looking after Petz thing too seriously - someone remind me they're not real).
