The first Accrington Knight

Riley Lord was the 1st Accringtonian to be made a Sir in the early 1900s. He was born in 1837 to George Lord and Mary Kenyon. He was knighted by the Prince of Wales because Queen Victoria was unwell at the time.
Riley Lord went on to do many great things in his lifetime.:Banane27:

Yes I'd be interested to know what great things he did. I've never heard of him which is a shame if he is someone we ought to be proud of.

He was Mayor of Newcastle in 1895. And he gave a statue of the young Queen Victoria to The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Unveiled by Edward VII in 1906. I can't find out why he was knighted but it does seem that a hell of a lot of MP's around that time were knighted.

It doesn't really matter where he lived and where he did many great things He still came from Accrington and he was the 1st Knight from Accrington. People did go to live in other parts of the country ( I didn't say he did many great things just for Accrington ) I just thought it was nice to know about him being the 1st Knight.

No, I'll just keep you in suspense, only because I was told about him by someone else. But Who cares anyway... He was THE 1ST ACCRINGTON KNIGHT....RIGHT! And to me, that is not just important, it's a great achievement.:Banane13:
