This should be required reading for every Accringtonian. The book is availabe in the library. I was at school with his son, who died three years ago. His daughter is still alive. They lived on Blackburn Rd near Sacred Heart Church. His book is described on the site as a minor classic. Nonsense - it is major. This man was a giant.

I was at school with his daughter Katherine, High School 1957-64. They lived on Blackburn Road. I remember her saying he was a ship's captain but I had no idea of his experiences. H must have been quite old when he had his family, after the war.

Taimi Boswell - Gypsy storyteller.

Lived Oswaldtwistle, circa 1915.

'Another version, “The Little Red Squirrel”, was told by Taimi Boswell at Oswaldtwistle, 2 January 1915. This has the Cymbeline motif of a wager on a wife's chastity.'
Folk narratives - Katharine Mary Briggs - Google Books

Mossycoat is a fairy tale collected by Katherine M. Briggs and Ruth I. Tongue in Folktales of England.[1]
Also included within A Book of British Fairy Tales by Alan Garner.
Their informant was Taimi Boswell, a gypsy, at Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, January 9, 1915

Bill was born during the war -1941. Katherine after it - 1946. As dad was away at sea a lot, there was not a lot of opportunity for arranging conceptions. Katherine lives near Stockport. Bill died after a fall several years ago.Delightful family.

Hippodrome was in Ellison street, near the bus garage. What's Croft street got to do with it?

There's a thread about the Hippodrome in the Nostalgia Ain't What It Used To Be section.
