Absolutely terrible song completely the wrong sort of thing all that techno crap - she'd be better doing an Alanis Morrisette-Dido cross sort of thing.

I wasn't critiquing the song, by the way.

Just noting that it was receiving widespread national coverage.

You can't expect to put up a link to a song and not expect people to comment on it Garinda. I think I would have to hear it more than 'Once' .. could be a song that grows on you.

As for Diane Vickers ... really pleased for her. To get good reviews for Little Voice speaks volumes to me ... her voice must be extremely versatile, and she has more talent than we originally judged.

There are lots of clips on YouTube of L.V. She didn't get one bad review from the critics, which is nigh on unique.

I saw Jane Horrocks, who the part was written for, and she was very good, but you could still hear flat Rawtenstall vowels creeping through the impressions, which you don't hear as much with Diana.

It is important to the story, because L.V. is supposed to do a pitch perfect impersonation of those female singers.

Mind you I know quite a few men who can do a flawless Shirley, Marilyn, and Judy etc.

:D

I also thought this was quite amazing (Diana's favourite word) .. good on her, she will never be short of work.

I didn't think she would do as well up against Jane Horrocks .. very unfair to compare really. The Director probably recognised this small fault in Jane and worked on Diana to improve vowel pronunciations in song. I'm sure Jane Horrocks would recognise this herself now.

I think she's talented, and it's good to see another local achieving national fame in acting.

(I was a little worried we might disagree, and have another artistic disagreement, as in the should Nancy be black debate. Though of course I would have given in to the noted Grand Dame of Am. Dram.)

It was the first time she did it in the West End ('91?), she later reprised the role, and would probably have been much better, as she was in the film, and as you point out.

Lol, l love Cilla's nasal 60's torch songs, which is probably why I like her voice.

As far as I know, she's the only local female whose debut single and album did top both charts.

I vaguely heard of her from being in X-factor, didn't know she was from Huncoat - but heard this song on TV in that advert they kept showing, which was like a sample of "Once" Good title because "Once" is about the most I want to hear it - as it just sounds so blatant. As for her acting no comment!

kestrelx 17-07-2010 14:51

Re: Diana Vickers.

She was on the TV this morning performing "Boy who murdered Love!" was quite a good performance, better than the sampled track I heard - don't know where she'll end up though?

Ha ha Rawtenstall Vowels, never heard that before.:D

I must admit Jane Horrocks voice is very irritating, im from Rawtenstall and shes the only person that sounds like that.

I think Diane Vickers is pretty good :)

She's having a more high profile, and successful career, than many of the people who have won the X-Factor, and who have since disappeared without trace, such as Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson, and li'l Joe McEldery.

Well done again to Diana Vickers. She is on the front cover of the Oct/Nov 2011 "DARE" magazine, the "high street beauty bible", produced by Superdrug. It doesnt seem that long since she was on the X Factor, but now she's all grown up and doing very well for herself! She has a Dee V fashion collection out, another album on the way and is now the face of Collection 2000 (make-up).

Rather than have a little moan, and hijack this thread, if you use the forum's search facility, you could post in one of the many, many threads in which Jon Anderson's discussed.
