Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
When he lived on Norfolk St my friend used to idolise him but would never speak to him - we had to walk past the house (by going on a detour) just in case he might be sitting on the garden wall and she could see him.
I noticed in the paper that 'Rod' Hill (always used to call him Rodney)is going to be there at the opening. He won me a coconut once at a garden party at St. Augustine's in Huncoat. Can I have that as my claim to fame? I remember they used to park the yellow van with horns outside his house on Pilot St (could be seen from the High School) |

The exhibition "YES; 35 Years of Wondrous Music" started today. Wow, the gentleman who has done the exhibition certainly has some stuff! David Watkinson (in white shirt) has been a collector of YES memorabilia for many years now - his collection is now on public display at the gallery.
Super-group YES, one of the most successful and enduring rock bands of all time, has a unique connection with Accrington. Lead singer, Jon Anderson was born in Accrington and celebrates his 60th birthday on October 25th. |

Fandom/Events
YES—35 Years of Wondrous Music is an exhibition at Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington, UK—Jon Anderson's hometown—put together by David Watkinson (author of "Yes—Perpetual Change") in celebration of Yes's 35th anniversary and Anderson's 60th birthday. The exhibition includes rare records, programmes, posters, t-shirts and other related music memorabilia. Download the flyer here. Approximately 300 people attended the opening day. The exhibition closes 14 Nov 2004: on that final day, there will be live music throughout the day (a local pianist playing Yes songs) and everything in the exhibition is up for sale. |
Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
That should be worth a visit. Not that I plan on buying anything of course but it should be good to hear the pianist. ;)

I lived on the corner of Norfolk Street next door but one to Jon Anderson. I never knew him cos i was born a tad bit too late..but my late father used to tell him to park the Warriors van further along the street so my dad could park his car infront of our house.

Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
Is there anything like this being planned for this years 40th anniversary of Yes?? Maybe we could invite Jon and Rick Wakeman to the FES to watch the mighty Reds ;). Seriously though, could we not have a building etc named after him like other towns do with their famous sons???

Websearch reveals that he is very ill (breathing problems) and had to cancel a tour planned for this year. No website indicates where he is living now - maybe it is best that this info is witheld in the interests of his recovery.

Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
Jon and Tony both worked with my dad on Procters farm when they were kids, and when i was a kid my dad took me to Tony's house on the Isle of Wight.
I must admit to loving Yes and Jon's other colaborations, his voice is so haunting. |

I thought it was Andy Williams, or the Associaction, Who recorded that song.
|
Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"

Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
I spoke to his brothers Tony & Stuart last night and they have spoken with him recently. After a bad asthma spell which put him into a coma, his doc has said No more touring for a year. John lives in LA (That's not Lower Accrington)
He has posted a bulletin on the YES website. Tony is a pastor living in Isle of Wight. recently at a church do he met a man he had worked with at Ewbank, but couldn't recall his name. I remember Tony talking about working on Procter's farm. I think he took a job there on leaving the Grammar School. I took part in skiffle sessions with Tony in their Norfolk st house. Their sister Joy is well too. |
Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
Glad to hear Jon is recuperating.
His version of 'Never My Love' was NOTHING like the version by the Association. It was absolutely fantastic. The end was incredible. There was a radio DJ called "The Baron" who I used to like but went off when he described the record as 'noise' and said the B side "All of the time" (or was it a double A?) sounded like a load of lunatics trying to break out of an asylum! Unfortunately I loaned a lot of my vinyl to someone who promised I would get them back but they did a runner and that was amongst the stuff I now no longer have. I do wish I could hear it again. |
Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
Do you still have their address Willow? I've lost countless records the same way.
Its a rare record and worth a pretty penny if not just in sentiment. http://www.musicstack.com/album/chri.../never_my_love |

Spend as much time as I can trying to educate Morocco with Going for the one and the Yes Album...... Just found this, Eilands, think Jon might enjoy it. |

Good for him. I might even forgive him for all the self-indulgent, navel-gazing, yawn-inducing prog rock he's produced over the last 40-odd years.

One thing's for sure...Alvin will be absolutely over the moon about it. Prog rock and Stanley - his two major passions together! :D

Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
I enjoy the music of Vangelis.
(Instrumental music is more to my taste - most human voices are 'imperfect instruments') Amongst my Vangelis collection, John Anderson performs in some. I wouldn't have bought those CDs to hear John Anderson, and did notice that his voice is pitched higher than most men. Although he doesn't sing off key, I don't consider myself a 'fan' of his. |
Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
Having being brought up on a steady diet of Yes, Jon and Vangellis, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Genesis, James Taylor, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Peter Frampton, Asia, ten years After more prog rock etc...... is there any counselling I can get?
But seriously, regardless of your opinion of Jon's music, I think this is a great thing for the team, it cannot be worse than the famous Milk Advert! He is giving somthing back to his town of birth and if it bring more publicity to Stanley, all the better |

Re: Jon Anderson of the 70's group "YES"
But, where could we hold such a concert for such a star? We had better start thinking NOW. I imagine its the PARKING that would be the problem. We would have to do a "park and ride".
We could suggest the original Accrington Stanley Ground, nr Peel Park School, or, Oak Hill Park would be good also. |
