Terylene
I am surprised that nobody seems to have mentioned the discovery of Terylene which seems to have been produced at Broad Oak works. It was discovered during the war (1941) and was shrouded in secrecy until 1946. It is more resilient and hard wearing than Nylon and is also acid resistant.
