Tell BT that you are cancelling the subscription due to unfair limitations on the account and move to pipex

I can’t Neil. Minimum 12 months contract and I don’t think that my grounds for cancelling a contract are reason enough to do so without penalty.

The other point with BT is that it is an always on system. I can disconnect from the Internet if I am working off line but it re-connects all by itself after a while. Even if I don’t have the browser up or the email client, Zone Alarm still shows that data is passing between me and the world and back even after I have cleaned out all the cookies and spyware etc. So I wonder what it is? It could be various programmes searching for any updates I suppose but what else? The only way to stay disconnected is to power down the modem – Oooops! Sorry! I mean router!

I tried that bandwidth reader that you suggested Basher but it only reads session bandwidth usage not cumulative for the month. Thanks anyway.

Zone Alarm has a 'lock internet' button, That should stop all traffic irrelevant of whether it is an authorised program or not.

All ADSl is 'always on' whether you connect your modem/router is up to you. What do you have, a modem or a router(techically these have a modem internally)?

I have a router entwisi. Voyager 205.

Thanks for reminding me about the ZoneAlarm ‘Lock Internet’ button. I had forgotten about that.

I have mine set to read it until I refresh the 'from date'.

Options, reports, monthly start date 1st, during cuirrent month selected, so it automatically starts afresh on the 1st of each month. All I need to remember is to log the amounts when I finally disconnect on the last day of each month.
