spam, possible viruses

ok , probably a question for the techies on the site , but for the past month I have been getting posts in my Yahoo mail "bulk mail" 'postbox ' from various greeting card mailing addresses.........see below ( I have dropped the [.com] from the posts, all were have been supposedly sent by a friend or an ex school-mate

Postcard
e-cards
E-cards
FreeWebCards
postcards this was (.org)
vintagepostcards
AmericanGreetings
egreetings

I have not opened any of these things since I don't know anyone who would send me an "e card" but I am wondering if I am suffering some sort of "bug" ..............my virus scans show nothing
thanks for any help

I've had the same thing recently and just deleted them. You can set up your email account so that they are automatically deleted and so don't get through to your inbox.

Re: spam, possible viruses

Because I buy almost everything on line, my email address seems to be on every spam list going. I get an average of 160 spams a day.
I have Spamhilator (free) which sorts the spam away from my Outlook Express Inbox.
A few months ago I paid about £25 (on line) for Spybot which stops website cookies from spying on which sites I look at (in the hope that this will stop some spam)
I have AVG(free) anti virus which updates and scans daily.I have a firewall.
I don't think that there is much else that can be done until spamming becomes unprofitable for the spammers - until then it is just something we have to put up with.

best way is to have a disposible email address. When you sign up for a new forum give that one. wait a month or so and if there isn't any spam to it them update teh site with your 'proper' one.
