Re: Internet Speed
you get unlimited downloads. i dont mean download speed. you get a fare usage policy which is 40gb a month. i never use the 40gb in one month and i dont think anyone else would. if you go to the extreme and use like 100gb obviosuly theyll notice and cap your bandwidth for afew days. but its unlimited meaning you dont get charged for downloading after a certain gb. theres no limit basically but all they ask you is you dont abuse it.

How is 40gb limit....unlimited ???? Quote:
A film is 4gb. If you spend all month downloading one film after another... how many gig is that and what do you think will happen.... if they stop your service for a few days as you think.. how is that unlimited? There really is no such thing as unlimited... I am off to wycombe now.. take some time to figure it out.. google.. ask yer mates... Try to find me anyhting in life or in the world that is unlimited.... you have 14 hrs... :) |
Re: Internet Speed
4gb films? where you downloading films? every film i download is on average 700mb. if your wasting 4gb on one film then i can advise you where to get them.
last month i downloaded rougly 60gb and uploaded around 40gb to various torrent sites. i checked my statistics on bitlord for that by the way. so thats 100gb bandwidth in 1 month. you should try their service before knocking it ;) check sky's terms and condition's. they have different packages, some have 40gb download limit and some have unlimited. they only have the fair usage policy to watch their backs incase you get people running like 5 pc's in one home and downloading/uploading 100's of gb each month. if you read their term's and conditions it also states that in one area everyones bandwidth is affected. so if you live in a street where 20 people have sky broadband the chances of your bandwidth being capped is more likely. yet if you live in an area with say 2 people then the chances of it being capped are less. meaning you can abuse more bandwidth. but you'd know this if you actually read up on them instead of knocking it before trying it. so much for needing 14 hours. oh and one more thing, as for me being conned? i pay 35 quid for the whole sky package yea, in the past 3 months ive downloaded/uploaded hundreds of ps2 games and dvd's. youve now got 14 hours to work out how much money ive saved on official ps2 titles and dvd's  |
Re: Internet Speed
i would not go with sky even if it was free i have heard of far to many people going with sky and them screwing it up. also sky do not offer static ip addresses. i need them for work.
|
Re: Internet Speed
if the movies that are being downloaded are from sky anytime then sky will probably change the settings for the downloads. at the end of the day i go nowhere near 40gb a month. plus sky realy does suck.
|
Re: Internet Speed
i dont see how sky sucks. the only thing that sky has srewed people around with is activation dates. when you jion you also get a free wireless netgear router. it takes time for sky to accept your broadband and you need a bt landline. other than that they're perfect. the download/upload speed never slows down, and my average download speed is around 225kb tested it at
testmy.net - speed test and broadband tools tests your connection. and no we was'nt on about sky movies :P |
Re: Internet Speed
i have spoken to quite a few people that went to sky and they compleatly screwed up the installation. they were going through the activation process for 3 months and then when they wanted to cancel the account (after not being in line due to waiting to be activated) they were realy slow in removing the tag on the phone line.
|
Re: Internet Speed
we had to wait for ours aswell alex, but trust me once its activated you'll never have a problem with it.
http://www.testmy.net/share2-4ZBQ1F0...s&q2=QF3SAJU80 thats mine i just tested on a saturday afternoon at peaktime. its even better than that at night. |

excuse me? when i have knocked the service? i happen to like sky so dont put words in my mouth.. sky are great for me.. its you and your posting telling accyweb members that its unlimited.... I am knocking you not sky.... no company can offer unlimited anything.. its impossible. what is wrong with you? |
Re: Internet Speed
Virgin claim to have unlimited downloads but I've seen on some forum that they cut your broadband speeds if you download alot.. speeds do seem to drop at certain times of day with virgin.
Most providers say it's unlimited but have a fair usage policy which basically means you get a warning if you are downloading more than they deem fit. |
Re: Internet Speed
It's more of a whole thing.. theres no such thing.. not on the internet.. not in any walk of life.. theres no such thing as unlimited.. internet providors use the word to entice people and the small print tells the truth... unfortunatly people on messageboards just shout unlimited.. then run round like headless chickens when you pull them up on it :)
Unlimted with limits isn't unlimited :) |

When you can download things at around 1.8Mb/s its pretty easy to reach a large amount of downloads! Luckily Bulldog don't have any caps and don't have any fair useage policies that im aware of, although that might change as our customer base has technically been acquired by tiscali but we're still apart of the fast Bulldog network :) Dvd's are 4Gb, the 700Mb films you download are compressed versions which are not as high a quality. Heck even the 4Gb dvd ones are compressed, regular dvds are around 9Gb. |
Re: Internet Speed
4gig is the full dvdrip, with titles, extra's and menu's. the 700mb files are usually just the film and nothing else. which is what i like, just burn it to disk and watch it with no hassle. cant complain when its free ;)
sky's package says umlimited kipax, but MAY be subject to a fair usage policy depending on your area or how much you abuse. ive used 100gb in a month and my internet has'nt been slowed or capped. simple. try reading everything instead of reading what you want to answer and ignoring the rest. |

its been two days now.. have you found anyhting on this earth thats unlimited.. or are you just gonna keep telling me to read skys terms? theres no such thing as unlimited.. argue it all you want.. but theres no such thing.. |
Re: Internet Speed
I think you will find that full HD films are significantly more than 4Gb just for teh film. What, your still watching SD? Surely you have moved onto HD by now :D
Its limited, like it or not, as for downloading films and the like why be so blatent about being a thief??????????????? |
Re: Internet Speed
omg are you thick.. skys terms and package says its umlimited. BUT is subject to a fare usage policy. tell you what why dont you sue sky for false advertising? like ive explained to you time and time again now how much you use depends on your location and who else uses it. their fare usage is anything over 40gb yes? well in 1 month ive used 100gb alot of companies claim to have unlimited but never back it up, they cap your download and lower your speed yes? well i've never had that happen to me and ive downloaded more than double their fare usage policy. so maybe sky actaulyl live up to their deals? have you got any research to prove sky's is'nt unlimited?
|
Re: Internet Speed
Think of it this way, why put "fair usage" and "40gb"if it was unlimited.
Unlimited means whoever signs up can download/upload an unlimited amount of stuff - right? so why a fair usage policy, you might be getting more than 40g don't think anyone is disputing that, doesn't mean everyone in Accy will if they sign up does it |
Re: Internet Speed

Yes... Skys usage policy states they arn't unlimited when they say they have a fair usage policy.. and I ahvent got a problem with SKY as they do live up to there deals.. Its you at the start of this thread telling people it is unlimited that is wrong.. not SKY .. Sky admit themselves that it's not unlimited and there use of the word is purely advertising.. You on the other hand are telling people it's unlimited when it's not.. Theres a whopping great big clue in this thread as to why it can't be unlimited.. apart from the fact that SKY say it... It doesn't matter if its sky. telewest, asda or the bank of scotland... For the very last time... There is no such thing as unlimited.. Everyhting has limits.. even sky.. even me trying to get you to undertsand unlimited doesn't exist.. |

Re: Internet Speed
:D, yes, because wii can (and also because I had been playing Rayman on it and couldn't be bothered to power up teh laptop just to check AW.
A lot of laptops can show HD in 720p mode. You don't need a new tele to watch HD :D 86" screen for cartoons?, (Gets projector out to see how big it measures) Liam, I'm not thick, It seems I understand the English Language far better than you. Unlimited its not, wake up and smell the limits. |
Re: Internet Speed
i think liam is getting upset. if you wanted to know what i ment about sky check out adslguide.org and compare sky against zen you will see what i am on about.
thinkbroadband :: The UK's largest independent Broadband / ADSL review site - Your guide to UK broadband Internet. also like what i said before Sky cannot offer me static IP addresses |
Re: Internet Speed
i aint getting upset, my sky's perfect. never had a problem with it once, i'd recommend sky to anyone..
|
Re: Internet Speed
except those who prefer Freeview? :D
You will normally find teh proof of teh pudding comes whenyou have an issue. Sky to be framk are worse than useless at dealing with customers(not that any of teh big ISPs are any better) |
Re: Internet Speed
Yep sky broadband help desk are as good as BT. i use BT for the office and they really ar a pain in the arse. the best company i have used for broadband is ZEN. they were fantastic
