surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

I have a yahoo account for a couple of people I talk to on IM. I'm used to getting the odd weird Spam through it for women offering me naked pictures etc but tonight I had a real weird one....

It was from "Rindy" which I thought a little strange as our good old Garinda is on MSN on my IM buddy list. Obviously on Linux I could happily click it in no fear, it was a spam link but I found it interesting or a weird co-incidence that it 'linked' me and "rindy" which is how I usually refer to Garinda on accyweb.

So, this is a little more than your usual " Bank email" etc, this is either a real random co-incidence or someone tracking references from Accyweb onto IM.

Be careful!

Re: surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

Or, Rindy is fed up having all his links to specialised footwear removed as spam from accyweb and is now going through his address book and hoping the direct approach will win him a little sympathy and maybe he'll finally be able to get rid of that container full of seventies 'glam' boots he bought for a snip on e-bay.

Having said that, guess whose msn has just sent me a link?

I'm not going to open it, I think Rindy may have been hijacked!

Re: surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

I pm'd him tonight to change his MSN password as I have been getting dodgy links sent to me from his MSN account for a couple of days - you sure it was not from his MSN account?

Changing his password will stop this. I have seen it several times - my account was compromised a while back as well.

Anyone wanting to change their MSN password has to do it using the link below as their is no way to do it in the MSN client program itself.

Change MSN (and Windows Live) Password

Thats why I was asking you. I think it will have been MSN. One of Sam's friends just sent him a link and she is not online either. It is a common MSN problem

Re: surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

It is a virus on MSN, I got two sent from Jen who got it sent from Rindy.

As you are all people who are not on my msn list, and I havnt had any, sounds like a problem with rindy's msn!

Re: surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

Now Spuggie is back we are talking on msn a lot ........ and it keeps coming up a message from rindy .... with a link on it ...... now i dont click on it ... and when that happens rindy is offline...... but also it comes up that im signed in on another computer ... and kicks me off msn and then goes to spuggie ... Have changed my password for msn, running a virus check as well and once thats done i'll run spybot.

Never had this problem with my Atari 800xl, hmmm, now what were the guys that built that called and which superb machine did they go on to create?

Do not click links from people unles you chat with them and they tell you what it is.

Re: surreal - yahoo-AOL IM warning

I hope nobody thinks that is how my PC got problems. I'm not very PC literate but I do know not to open links like this one:)

I've only just seen this thread thanks to Neil, as I'm so un-techie I don't normally look in here.

Last Friday I received a messag eon MSN from someoe known to me. It said 'check out my photos from New Year's Eve. To see the photos you had to re-enter your name and MSN password, which because I was stil half asleep l foolishly did.

I never open mail from people I don't know, but was taken in by this because it appeared to be from someone I know and trust, and seemed fairly plausible...well it did whilst I was still so dozy.

Beware, and I apologise to people who thought I'd got a job peddling porn.:D

P.S. Thanks to Neil for alerting me about this, and for telling me how to reset my password.

This was from someone I know and trust, that's why I was taken in, though it turns out they didn't know anything about it.

Should have found that out first though...before stupidly typing in my password.:o

I have just sent one of Sams friends an MSN message telling him how to change is password as his MSN just sent the link Sam.

This is the second time I have warned friends on his list in a couple of weeks :)

Have you changed your MSN password now?
Do you understand how your password was stolen so it wont happen again? If not ask and I will explain.

No I have no idea how my password was stolen or how to change it so any advice would be welcome. Just one thing I don't know my original password either:o

Your messenger has sent me 4 links in the last 20min or so, roughly at 5 min intervals so it’s still playing up I’m afraid.

A scan will not stop it. You don't have a virus. Your have given your password away.

Never type your MSN password into any link that comes as a message from a friend. You will have got a message from a friend saying look at my pictures. You clicked it and it asked you for your password. Bingo you gave your password away so now your account can send the same message to all your friends.

You must change your password now to stop it happening.

Use this link to change it https://accountservices.passport.net...?lc=2057&id=10

Let me know if it does not work for you.

If its the one that invites you to look at her photos it is not a virus. It asks for your password so you can see them.
