You Tube..now owned by Google is far bigger and has more clout than the PRS...I think this only a stand off and the PRS will lessen their demand.?

you know they spend more money protecting music than what they spend on protecting children , it can take years to get legislation through to protect the poor and abused in society yet the mmusic indistry can get all sorts shoved through teh courts in hardly any time at all

It is music that has been published and recorded by artists covered by PRS...not all videos have been withdrawn.

I agree with that. Anyone who has dealings with the PRS will know what power they have.

Just as an aside...Imagine if Google took all reference to the artists and publishers covered of the search engine...how much scearming would there be then.....I think Google will win this one?

Some may still be on for a while - they just started going through them at 18.00.
Not a major loss is it??

Re: Youtube to block uk users

Just picked this up to explain what the PRS are up to with the full backing of the courts.

At work yesterday we were told we can no longer have radios on. It's all to do with the PRS (Performing Rights Society) having a clampdown on Public Performance licences. It's always been the case that you should have a license to play music which could be heard by the public but here in the North West they are currently having a clampdown. They are doing spot checks and can issue a fine of £1000 if you don't have the license. Apparently they sometimes phone up and if they hear music they pay you a visit!
The firm I work for have decided that the £229ish that it will cost is too much and so have made us remove all radios from the building which is fair enough I suppose. I did offer to contribute but nothing came of it.
Last week tyre chain Kwik Fit were find over £250,000, that's £1000 for each depot, so this is a serious move by the PRS. Personally I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. I buy a couple of CD's a month and it's usually new stuff that I heard on the radio and took a fancy to. Now I won't be hearing new music so will probably end up buying less CD's.
Anyone else in the same boat and can think of a way around it?

I have to block users from accessing sites like facebook / youtube at work. As a work around to this or any other sites you can use a proxying site to by-pass restrictions, e.g: Proxy Site, Myspace Proxy, Proxy, Facebook Proxy, Proxies.....
...and yes - I also block them aswell. Mwhahaha...

I take note that Estelle Morris...a failed government minister who stood down from her post with the government saying she could not take the responsibility.
She is now a director of PRS.......another pension perhaps?

I used to listen to the uk radio at work, but since last year I am not allowed. "It's only for UK listeners" What kind of mentality do these people have!
I can get around it by going on the Internet to a UK radio site.

hang on a second

we are FORCED into buying a tv licence which funds the bbc

we then have to buy a licence to listen to music in our workplace paid for everybody in teh workplace already via teh tv licence which funds bbc radio 1

other radio stations pay for their broadcasting licence via adverts so these peopel are already getting their money and so is the artist every time a song is played

how many times do we have to pay for 1 product ?

it stinks to high heaven , since when have a bunch of shirts from a poxy music company been in a position to put demands on a govenment and get laws passed to suit themselves and do as they please

It would appear as though the PRS want some of Googles revenues and Google have told them to chew on it.
