Google street view
took a 'drive' down Blackburn Rd from the Town center towards Church on the "new" Google street view , have to admit had to slow down a bit in places to get my bearings .... biggest surprise was when I got to Church ....theres 'nowt' left , all gone , and whats with all the roll down metal storm shutters on the shop windows along Blackburn Rd. makes the place look bad, if theres a need for security stuff like that they should use the accordian/scissor type open weave things (sorry , just an opinion) :D :D

Re: Google street view
Hadn't realised they had released Accy in such detail, even our house is on it! :D
|
Re: Google street view
Mine too.
I browsed a few of my marked places then it crashed - must be overloaded with people looking today |
Re: Google street view
Our house is on but the pic`s were taken early last year because my old car is on the drive...........

Re: Google street view
Quite brilliant, but also somewhat depressing when you look at the waste land of Lonsdale St area where I lived for a number of years, at least the Maden St area of Church has been developed.
What is going to happen to the Lonsdale St area? |

Re: Google street view
You all seem quite pleased about it. I only mention it as not so long back some people were kicking up a right royal stink about having their houses shown, said it encouraged burglars, made it easy to see which houses were alarmed, best access etc.
Just wondered if you Folks felt the same way ? do you see it as an invasion of your privacy ? an incursion into your personal space / Home ? or do you genuinely not feel bothered ? I must admit I've used the "Street view" a couple of times while planning Holiday stays, looking for the Hotel we intended to use, the area it was in & how busy it was there, all innocuous reasons but as stated some feel it is prying ! Views please. :) |
Re: Google street view
IMO a burglar will walk around the streets, not use a poor view from Google to find houses to burgle.
You can see a lot more that way. The street view is good though, its really good for people looking to move into an area to have a look around. I had a look at the house my son is going to rent in Leeds t'other day. |
Re: Google street view
I'd guess Accy town centre was done early one Sunday morning.
Even that early there are cars parked badly, half on the pavements, on certain streches of Blackburn Road. |

Re: Google street view
I love it, although my steering isn't always that brilliant ... :D
I have no objection ... Mattylad has an excellent point on potential burgleries, and people's faces are blanked out ... so what is the problem ? My son, in his capacity as a Transport Planner, finds it extremely useful for initial views of an area .... and, yes, he does also hoof it around these sites too. So has a commercial value too. |

I'd say about 4pm on a Sunday afternoon :) |
Re: Google street view
I bet the traffic to the site is massive
|
Re: Google street view
It's quite aggravating that you can't continue noseying in pedestrian only areas, such as Broadway, or explore up people's back passage, because they didn't take the Google van there.
:D |

I agree (coz the shops are shut and the clock at the bus station says 4pm :D) |
Re: Google street view
Do we think it was all photographed on the same day?
Let's take guesses when we think it was. I think it was the first Sunday in March last year, as there's frost on my new gate, even though it was beautifully sunny. Any other guesses? |

Re: Google street view
I was on Buckingham Grove, the short cut from Hyndburn road to Dill Hall and took a photo of the camera car as it passed and the date was 20th March 2009.
The photo was taken in a hurry with a phone cam so it's not too good but it does show the cars registration as being French and from the Paris area. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCF3520.jpg |

It doesn't seem too long ago I checked to see if they had been round here and it wasn't available then, anyway,
I must check my cars better before I buy them, I hadn't noticed I have bought a cut-n-shut  (thats a front front of a car and a back of a car welded together for those not in the know) They didn't do a good job did they  :D http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/a...1&d=1268424567 |
Re: Google street view
LOL - I noticed that a similar thing has happened to a house I once owned - glad I sold before the earthquake;)

Re: Google street view
I have just been thinking about my post above regarding the Google car being French.
maybe it's a scam to find suitable houses for all the illegal imigrants trying to get here from France. |

Re: Google street view
I must have driven right behind the Google car!
Someone just linked a Google map in another thread. I've used Street View to nosey at places where I've lived, and at the homes of friends and relatives. I've usually looked at houses face on, and never noticed my car. However, there I am, driving up a lane in Ossy, turning into the drive of a relative. They haven't even pixilated my face. Good job I wasn't going somewhere I shouldn't have been going.:p:D |
