especially for web authors and developers..... hence my response :)

MSIE 90% long gone... by what.. 2%? give over.. I would strongly dissagree with that statement... while computers and laptops are being opened at christmas with only IE as the option then they will always have around 90% and no matter how good the other browsers are they will never get there... theres enough companies tried and failed..

Get firefox or opera or whatever shiped with windows and it will change.. not before

Example from one of my websites (rough as stats arnt perfect) just a sport website.. nothing to do with computers.. so your everyday joe goes.. I ahve lots more websites equally as busy with simmilar results...

Accyweb for example will show a different result because the owner uses firefox and has got quite a few of the users into it so figures will be different... but from normal bog standard sites your still looking at around 90%

The big issue with all this is that there will never be a set of truely ratified figures, things like user agent spoofing to get round poorly designed sites have an effect as does The sites being monitoired(techical sites are known to have IE in teh minority, if you are browsing Linux sites its a pretty much given you probably won't be using IE . Kipax and myself have done this dance a few times now.

IE is still a majority browser mainly due to the reason Kipax mentioned about it being installed by default, however it is consistantly losing ground, how long till we get a more balanced market? not sure. I do think it will happen though.
