Re: where are these gates
I think the hill is called Knowle Hill.

Re: where are these gates
That chimney is in a bad state, its only the bands holding it together, looks like the mortar has crumbled on one side, thereby causing it to lean. The cause is no more Lancashire boilers belching smoke up the up the chimney. The chemicals in the soot get rained on & turn to acid, which rots the mortar. Ever put bands on chimneys from a flying scaffold, believe me its hard work.

Re: where are these gates
I recognise the hill but if it isn't called Knowle then I don't know what it is called. I recognise that puff of steam too because it's always puffing and always looks like a steam train.

Re: where are these gates
The hill in question is Pen-y-ghent. The ordnance survey mapping software on my laptop tells me that it is 694 metres high. I don't know what this translates to in old currency, but as a comparison, Ingleborough is 724m and Whernside is the tallest of the Three peaks at 736m.

where are these gates
The second photo, showing gates, is of the old Mastabar Mining Equipment/NGN Ltd premises on Kirk Road, Church. I went through those gates for nine lovely years.
