Then & Now #1

Regarding the changing face of the area I thought this sequence would be of interest. After the closure of the Accy to Bury railway, the hill just beyond Haslingden station, through which ran a short tunnel, was demolished and the massive amount of earth was used to infill the cutting in the Rising Bridge area. X marks the spot from which all the photos were taken.

:D Owd Bert I can just about recall my Dad taking me on the railway to Manchester from Accrington.

:engsmil: I think it is great that someone has taken the pictures and then either saved them or past them on for others to view and look at how the area has been changed.

Some of the changes are for the good and some for the NOT so good...... but only time can tell

Excellent photographic record Owd Bert….More of this short of work should be done, even the most innocuous sites in our landscape should be recorded for posterity and a trigger for our ageing memories. Typical of this for me was the discussion we had some time ago about the arches down at Priestley Clough below Baxenden. Some members couldn’t remember them so I think it was Willow who went for a walk and took some photos of how the site looks now; the area looked nothing like it use to do. Yesterday I saw a photograph that although well before my time brought memories flooding back…More please…Sir.

Yes I totally agree with Doug. It's great to see a photographic record like this and to compare the changes. We often don't really notice how things change gradually around us but then seeing the old photos brings all the memories flooding back.
